Dakota stays with me, the rest are in the coop. Mama chicken lost two chicks while I was away. Hawk I’m sure of it. Dakota gets shrimp tonight. Honestly, I love cooking my own food, spiced and simmered to my liking. Seems Dakota likes my shrimp too.
Hawks, cats and nosey neighbors are my predators.

Only way to live and thrive is to have communication and caring friends. Paul can always reach me by radio in my plane, for emergencies. He’s also a great chicken sitter (in a pinch) :D
The roo is fine, he just had a burr stuck deep in his beak. Dakota got airsickness coming back, but she’s fine now. I’m sick because of the price of AVGas these days! :barnie
I flew I said I drove, but that was only an option. Sorry for any confusion I may have caused

Hi everyone.

I missed the last 2 pony Sundays. I could save this video for the next one but I will just have to take another.

The shrimplets have grown. They are big enough the light is left on for 12 hours at a time now. I just love watching them swim around doing their own Shrimpy things. Also look how tiny the little snails are. I let her have this hatch and their are little snails everywhere, no more to hatch for a while. The darn things already laid another clutch a few days ago that I just found and need to remove. I plan on giving them a few more days for their shells to harden up and I am then going to put a piece of blanched cucumber in the bottom of the tank. My co-workers daughter just set up a small tank and wants some baby snails and shrimp. However many snails end up on the cucumber she can have. I will let go of 5 shrimp.

Close encounter of the third kind

The chooks were just bonkers tonight, I had a devil of a time getting everyone settled. Even the silkie babies where causing grief, running out the door when I was trying to get everyone in.

They were all carrying in squawking so much and just creating such drama and havoc. Finally o turned of all the lights hoping they would settle down by Marty and Whiskers just kept it up causing everyone to also just keep it up.

I grabbed Whiskers to put her in her crate and turned to walk and tripped over a blooming big RAT.

I dropped Whiskers (sorry girl), and screamed ‘OH MY GAWD ITS A RAT’ which set everyone off squawking again… with me screaming along with them.

Poor rat likely almost had heart failure, in retrospect I should have stomped on the blighter, but the shock of it all freaked me out.

So that’s what the chooks were all carrying on about.

Once Rat ran off I was able to put Whiskers in her crate with her babies and chase everyone to bed.

Time to go and set a couple of traps. The rat must go, my poor heart can’t handle the stress of another encounter!
Sorry, shouldn't be laughing, but the whole mental image: screaming chooks, "go to bed! Screaming Kelly....snag a chook...turn about step on rat, screaming/dancing (high stepping) Kelly, chook getting swung about at ends of twin flailing arms...more screaming chooks, feathers and chooks bouncing all over...rat tail disappearing into a hole.... all in Looney Toons animation... :lau :gig:lau:lau:gig:gig:gig
