Hi everyone,

I am Vivek, from India. I am growing a few indian flocks in my backyard and one of my "Naked Neck" chicken looks like 2 weeks old but it is actually 2 months old. Its growth have been stopped i think so, can any one suggest me what measures i should take to boost up its growth. As its mother is going to lay eggs soon and i can't let it be free with other chickens as they will peck it hard. So if any one knew about what kind of foods or medicine i should use to look like normal chicken.

You could TRY more protein but if it has eaten the same ration as the others with equal access to feed, then it may just be a runt. I remember raising a batch of 25 Freedom Rangers together with multiple feeders and all on the same feed. One cockerel just didn't grow as fast as the others. It was just as healthy and vibrant foraging as the others, he was just smaller. By butcher time, he was half the size and weight as his flockmates.

Is the chick and mother hen out and about with the other chickens, learnign to find food and water? If not, while the hen is caring and looking out for the chick, I would put them out, but watch closely to make sure Mama keeps the others away from her. Broody hens will normally defend chicks from others hurting them. But if the chick is added to the flock after she abandons the chick, it will most likely be attacked. If it is accepted into the flock with Mama protecting it, then when she does abandon the chick, it should be already accepted into the flock. Does that make sense?
