I raised some red ranger meat birds over the winter and slaughtered and cleaned the remaining 5 over the weekend. When I was defeathering one of the birds, I noticed a growth on its chest that was accompanied by a black portion of skin. The growth was basically right on the breast bone of the bird in the middle of its chest. When I cut the growth off, a yellow liquid came out of the growth and covered the breast meat. There was no pus. I did not have any other birds exhibit this growth.

My question is, has anybody experienced a something like this? Can I, should I, still eat the bird? I feel terrible throwing out a whole bird out.

Thanks

Without seeing a picture of the growth, I always say when in doubt, throw it out. Hopefully someone who knows this problem will respond.
