Growth on duckling’s face

My two week old crested duckling had this weird growth on the side of her face. It appeared last week and has grown in size. This is probably triple the size it was when it first appeared. Does anyone know what this is?

It should be something like a benign congenital or dermoid cyst but I am cautious in concluding that in a crested duckling that likely has a defect in the skull under the crest. That might be something herniating through another defect in the skull -- meninges [lining of the skull] and cerebrospinal fluid [the fluid round the brain] for example. Likely not, as there seem to be rudimentary feathers attached to it.

A quick trip to a vet would be a good idea . Even a benign dermoid could get large enough to be uncomfortable or to catch on things and give trouble

Hi did you ever figure this out? Two week old crested same thing here- seemed to pop up over night!

It sure looks very much like the other duckling.

I'll tag a few educators and see if they can help. I have never seen anything like this. I don't want to speculate. Is a vet an option?
