Growth on my chickens leg

Hi, was given a chicken a few weeks ago, has a large growth on leg, is around 5 years old? Any advise on what it could be? Thanks for any help in advance.

I cant really make out what it is. Can it be an external growth of some sort, that has developed on outside of chickens leg? Meaning, a fungus growth, that started enlarging on some dirt the leg encountered?
Can you soak the foot in luke-warm water, and see if portions are able to be removed?
