Grrr...people and fish.

I have a small pond with goldfish. I bought 25 cent feeder goldfish after a racoon or heron had cleaned out the $5.95 fish. Now those fish are brightly colored 7-8 inch beauties. I hate that people would just throw out animals like that.

I went to our state fair when I was around 12 years old and they were doing that game with baby chicks!!!!! They outlawed it after that year though b/c people were dropping them off the huge ferris wheel!!!!
Can you even imagine???? :mad::mad:
OK, that just made me so angry all over again!!!

Many countries prohibit the use of live animals as prizes at carnivals, which I think is an excellent idea.
I will probably be crucified here (

), but I also don't think it's a good idea to be able to buy animals at fairs or carnivals either. Too much impulse buying of animals happens this way (especially bunnies!) by people who don't know what they are getting into. A few years ago at a fair I heard a group of teenage boys exclaim "Look! These roosters are for sale. Let's get some!" Happily they ended up not getting any, but what if they had? They had no real desire to have chickens and probably had no facilities at home to care for them, so what would have happened? At responsible fairs, exhibitors who also breed and sell can pass out cards and be contacted by serious buyers on another day. Please note that I am not talking about species-specific shows or swaps, where the people attending the event are there to buy and know what they are doing.

How can anyone hurt an animal let alone something as adorable as a baby chick?

I would've sent some of the people after the chicks...:thun

I hate people that think that goldfish can live in a little dinky bowl and be happy and healthy...
Even the danged feeders could grow to be a foot long...
Boy do they get po'd when I tell them that too...
Even the fancy ones like Pearlscales, Moors and Orandas can get big...

Because of stupid people, there's a disclaimer on the betta cups saying that it's not a permanent home for the poor dumpling.
Thanks so much for taking the fish.
I would've done it too.

I agree that those games are ridiculous. My kids have won those fish but we have always kept them properly and they live a few years. The first on lived 2 years then my 2year old bit it in half. Who would think he could just reach in a pick it up. The next lived 3 years and the same child over fed it. Oops, they really can eat until they explode. We don't have fish now.

well when our high school plays our rivals the cheerleaders go out a buy a bunch of gold fish. The uperclass men swallow them live I dont know why its retarded. Then whatever is left over the lowerer class men have to eat.

I know someone released a ton of gold fish in a "restoration" pond area... and the fish ate all the frogs and tadpoles. Now there are tons of fish and no frogs... there goes that "restoration" area.... no wonder frogs out here are slowly disappearing.

I had a fan tail once, a beauty! It lived in the 30 gal till it died. I hear some of those lines can live upwards of 80 years!
