Grrr, Wanting Something for Nothing & No Appreciation for Fine Hand Quilting....A Rare Speckledhen

Your braver than i am. Your also WAY more experienced than I am at quilting. You make somemof your own designs! That is quite the feat. What is a catcher? Is it like the white distilled vinegar I use for colorful clothing.
They say vinegar will not set the dye in batiks due to the way they are created. There is a product called Restayne or Retayne, not sure, but it's rather expensive, not feasible for just one fabric that I could use elsewhere if it didn't work for this quilt. I'm amazed at the lack of rose-toned fabrics, though they may pop up more now that it's getting close to spring.

I have never used it but will be sure to give it a try. I have always used white distilled vinegar just as my mother and her mother before her.

Color catchers are just extra insurance, aside from the other stuff you can do to set the dye. The vinegar may set it, but the catchers get what may bleed out into the water before it gets on another lighter fabric.

I wonder if shoppers in big cities appreciate their shopping selections. We are so limited up In the mountains.
Yup, we sure are. And we have to travel a ways to get to anything.
Vinegar would help with most fabrics, certainly. It's just these overdyed batiks, the way they are created, need something extra.

Love this, but alas, we are no where near big business. It was in eBay don't know how long ago.

The photo looks like something crocheted, not like fabric. Maybe it's the picture.

Assembling the blocks, two at a time, then into 4-block squares, then together, which will take a little bit-I'm being sure every block is squared up as well as it can be before I sew two together. Took time off this a.m. to take my husband to breakfast since it's his b'day, but back to work. The batting is arriving today, other stuff next week, including the border fabric that I hope will work. No one is getting in a lot of new spring fabrics yet where I think I might find more selection in the rose color.
