I found the shell at the base of the fig tree that is about a foot from the nesting box. I have to have it on the ground and open at all times or she won't get in.  She is too heavy to roost or fly up to a not-open-to-the-public nesting box. And this afternoon I went to see if she laid an egg, because sometimes she won't sing her egg-song, and the egg was crushed and it was fresh. It was still wet where the animal licked. I am about to check if the dog or one of the cats is licking their lips.

 I just found the wet spot from the egg being eaten in the nesting box. It was probably the dog! She has a history of kicking the chicken out during a storm, or just kicking her out because she wants to lay in the box!
