Ours do both, but they are contained in a fenced pasture and front yard, and they are trained not to mess with the poultry. Our one male, Elmo, will just stand there while our male gander trys to climb up his back and bite him during breeding season. I have 3 all together and they are very good dogs........... with training. I think they have more natural protecting nature of animals than a lot of dogs, but they are still dogs and some are better than others. They are in with everything from Seramas, all types of fowl, turkey, peafowl, emu, mini horses, horses, goats, potbelly pig, a hair sheep, a zebu bull, a mini donkey, llama, alpaca and 2 cats.... once they are older I have not had any trouble with them... you have to watch puppies as you would any breed.
