Guardian Dog for Ducks

Don't use the Dachshund! They are crazy! Patos and I had 18 and 17 two wonderful red Dachshunds and they were sweet but I think they would terrorize my ducks. lol the corgi is on his own¿
We are training Denver our dog to hold them in a certin place by our command and he is learning but it is daily training. Passive and active.

I do highly recommend researching LGD breeds before deciding. I love Great Pyrenees: they're human-friendly, but they bark a lot (which is part of their 'guarding': predators avoid barking dogs). Anatolians are quieter, but much less people-friendly when it comes to visitors. Then there's differences between 'patrolling' vs. 'guarding' (a dog who patrols the property, which will need to be fenced; or a dog who stays with the flock). There's a lot that goes into getting a LGD & it not being a disaster!

Omg, I know! My dachshund was clearly a runt and has Napoleon complex to the max.

PS: my Gracie (the Sheltie) is a barking lunatic. She's my 5th or 6th Sheltie and is the absolute worst barker I've ever had. One of my Shelties would not bark if his life depended on it and I'm not exaggerating. His life DID depend on it once and he didn't, but by the grace of God I was able to find him and save him anyway. The others were normal barkers - they barked when they needed to. Gracie is kind of a "special needs" dog, is hearing impaired and was an "only" pup. She's a mess but I love her and she's good with the chickens. So. You pays yer money and yer gets what yer gets, as they say.

I love Gracie already!

Oh, I would love to have a Pyr.... but fear I could not keep up with that coat! Lots of people have them around here. Golden retrievers have always been one of my favorite breeds, and another I'd LOVE to have is a Bernese Mt. Dog! Again, coat issues... and it gets so hot and humid here, poor Gracie spends the hottest part of the day lying on the A/C vents, lol! (No worries, the chickens aren't free ranging at that time of day anyway!)

Same here. I worry about a heavy coat in North Carolina heat & humidity! :hmm
