my guesses have changed a little over time...but my current guesses are:
#1 pullet- black star?
#2 pullet- black star?
#3 cockerel- barred rock?
#4 cockerel- blue laced red wyandotte?
#5 cockerel- don't know?
#6 pullet- gold star?
#7 pullet- gold star?
#8 cockerel- gold star?
#9 pullet- rhode island white?

I was told these are gold star, black star, rhode island white, blue laced red wyandotte and barred rock

#5 doesn't match any of those breeds, as far as I can tell...but he is the nicest little guy. My son loves him and I think the feeling is mutual.

. I am sorry you lost one.

I recently lost the only chick my kids had officially named which was also my favorite don't quit & miss the ejoyment of owning them my chickens are excellent therapy and I love them

#1 jersey giant, #2 black sex link (pullet), #3 barred rock rooster, #4 blue laced red wyandotte, #5 might have been a delawear #6 & #7 might be red sex links (pullets) #8 & #9 might be white rocks or leghorns

thank you Ebers...sorry to hear you had a loss too.

#5 (Zack) was one of my favorites...but it hurt even worse, knowing it was my son's.
Zack was such a good chick too...one of the few that jumps at the chance to be held.
I feel discouraged...wondering how am I going to build a run that is critter proof, but moveable.
Thanks for your words on encouragement.
I do find animals to be good therapy...
My son has developmental delays (has not been diagnosised yet-but he is very possibly on the autism spectrum).
I really want to continue having these chicks, but I am concerned for them and feeling horrible and missing Zack.
I really hope we can figure this out...and not lose anymore.

I've built 3 coops in the last 2 months all were intended to be moveable but in the end they were too big to move easily I but there are several styles to choose from on the net I'm sure you can find one that fits ur needs

thanks...I will look for ideas on the coop page. Our coop is looking pretty good I think...but it's the run that I worry about (for now).
I think we will probably build a permanant run (fort knox style) and a movable run (that can only be used when we are with them (roof on both)).
Our coop has a few layers to it...wood, chicken wire, plastic, insulation and more wood. I will have to double check the roof and floor though... and get weather stripping for the door to make it fit better...(right now there is a 1-2" gap which I've heard weasels can sometimes sqeeze through).
this picture is pre-door. I will go to the coop section and check it out...and post there soon, with a new picture with door....it would be nice if there was a check list to make sure you have all the bases covered...
And Thank you for your guesses on the breeds. I am still trying to take photos of them weekly as they change.
I was told they go through an 'ugly' phase...but I haven't seen it yet...they are as cute as the day they were born.
