Guess I am a nervous first-time mom!

Hi all. Love this site. We have never raised chickens before and have our four girls still inside. They are golden wyandottes and about 4 weeks old. We are in the Willamette Valley in Oregon and it is still a bit too cold to put them outside....
The problem is they are learning to fly inside and keep escaping their box! We raise the sides and still they manage to get out.
I don't want to put wire over them...seems they will knock their heads on it and maybe hurt themselves.
Any suggestions?

Welcome to BYC. Plastic netting will work. Any home improvement store has it. Use clothespins to clamp it down around the top of the cardboard box.

Welcome to BYC and what dawg53 said will work. You could also put them in a dog cage. That's what we did for my chicks. I also gave a golden laced wyandotte. Post some pictures of yours! Here's mine!

They do tend to fly out of their brooder when they get a little older, my chickens used to fly as high as maybe three or fourr feet... o.o Anyhow, the plastic netting idea is a good one, or perhaps you could transfer them to a shed, to give them more space? It's okay if you put them out in the coop, but string a light over to still provide heat.
