I thought it would be fun for everyone to test their chicken knowledge with a little quiz. I have some pictures of Cross breed Chickens and you all have to guess what the two purebred parents were and additionally what colour they might have been to create the offspring. Take into account comb types, breed unique colours and patterns, tail carriage and shape, leg colour, feathering, facially, on the legs but also how tight or loose it is.

Remember this is just a bit of fun so don’t get upset or annoyed if it’s too hard. I’ll announce the answers on Sunday. Good luck and may the odds be ever in your favour

H) Now This one is harder as these following 4 birds are all full siblings, and both parents were a first generation cross breed so in total 4 different breeds have come to create these...... good luck as I wouldn’t guess them all from this ;)

And your 100% certain of the exact parentage and grand parentage of each bird? This is vital information if your going to be 100% certain on the parentage of crossbreds. Traits can skip a generation, I've seen many time where grandparent traits pop up in birds that their parents didn't show.

Yes all cross breeds and parent stock are mine and all grand parent, great grandparent stock is owned and bred by me, or for a few breeds close friends own thengrandparent stock but I’m 100% confident on the purity of the purebred parents that went into these crosses and I know for fact the exact parents of each cross breed. For example I know that this hen has a Brahma father and an ayam cemani mother as he was the only cock bird in the run and the ayam cemani was the only black feathered, black skinned hen in the run.

I'm finding it quite confusing having so many to assess at once and I'm by no means an expert, but here are my partial guesses.

A. Perhaps a Gold Laced Wyandotte cross. Trying to figure out where the dark legs have come from and the feather colour. If it was Ayam, I would expect the feather colour to be black but I'm going with Wyandotte/Ayam Cemani

B. Welsummer cross maybe?

D. Columbian Wyandotte cross but not sure what....something with red.... I'm assuming you are not considering sex links as pure breeds... I ask because some of the latter birds look like red sex link crosses.

E. The Gold Laced Wyandotte part is pretty easy but I'm struggling to see any features of the other parent.

F. No idea

G. Ayam Cemani cross perhaps with a Silver Laced Wyandotte

H. I can see Wyandotte and maybe Leghorn? but I'm struggling for coming up with reasons for other two components other than they look like red sex link crosses so maybe RIR in there.

Can you mark me with a half point for each correct breed for each answer ....

A) golden laced polish mix
B) brahma mix(?) (depending on whether he has feathered feet or not.)
C) leghorn, campine, or bresse mix
D) columbian wyandotte mix(?) (depending on her comb type)
E) golden laced wyandotte x brahma
F) chamois campine or yellow pencilled friesian mix
G) fayoumi x iowa blue(?)
H) red sexlink x wyandotte x ???
