Guinea color genetics

Tried asking this in the guinea section to no luck so am trying here. Might be a good thread for guinea color genetics in general.

My own question is, what's the genetics for Slate? Is it a no-spot Gray or something else?

I'm guessing it's something recessive as my Slate x Pearl(both pieds) produced mostly Pearls with a few Royal Purples.

If I want more Slates, does it matter if I keep a Pearl or RP from this cross?

It is somewhat confusing as some color differences seem to be subtle and/or the only difference is spotted/partial/no spot.. however it seems experienced guinea owners make a distinction between slate and violet so they might be two different things. I've never seen a violet so I can't comment on them.
