Guinea hen making a nest - hopeful?

D'Angelo N Va. :

I will have to get some now, just for the taste of the eggs....WHY DID I JOIN THIS BYC!!!! NOW I WANT EVERYTHING I READ ABOUT..and every kind. I was perfectly content with my 26 hens last year....now 80+ chickens and 4 new ducks..and now I want guineas...ughhhh

I know! I had about 60 chickens when I first joined BYC...now I have almost over 100 Chickens + 11 Guineas, and 27 buttons! Then I found out about incubators...ah-oh!!!!

You may have Just chickens now..but just you wait and you'll look back in a few months ( or maybe even days ) and wonder how on earth did I get so many different kinds of chickens, gamebirds, waterfowl????

Mrs. Fluffy Puffy :

I've never eaten Guinea eggs..I got 12 from a friend once but I gave'em to a broody hen!

They taste the same to me, but they take some muscles to crack, I think you could play softball with those eggs! Mine have not started laying yet, and last years hide and seek nests were a pain the butt. I would find them when she had loaded them with 35 eggs and then left!

I would love to find it earlier and incubate some...but we will see, least she only lays on 7 acres...guess it could be worse.

i found it quite easy to find my hens nests. mine always make a sound. something like *chang, chang, chang*. mine always did that after she laid her egg. found it all 4 times that year. i say 4 times because even though i didnt take any eggs, something else did and she moved it.pretty easy.
