I wish I could do that with mine. I did for two years, but the second year it was a disaster. So now I shut it down completely and bring the koi in. It’s more work, but peace of mind for me. I think my ponds location is maybe just too open the our strong windsI keep mine going all winter.
I just keep enough water running through mine to prevent it from freezing. If I shut the water off it would probably freeze and kill everything but the salamanders.I wish I could do that with mine. It was frozen over for about a week. Amazingly, the catfish that it’s stocked with seemed to have survived the freeze without apparent issues!
