I’m really not sure what happened.
We had some strong(loud) thunderstorms roll through and I think it scared the guineas overnight. When I opened the coop door nest boxes were knocked over, food dish was moved, 4 of the babies were outside the brooder area running around with the adults! Ugh. Oh, and feathers everywhere!
I had to open the brooder door and wait for the babies to find their way back inside. After that I shooed the adults out. All but one. My daughters favorite guinea Tiny. She will flap her wings and hobble around to get away from me, but she won’t stand up. 😞
I set up a dog crate to keep her safe from being trampled or picked on, but I’m at a loss on what else to do. I looked at her legs and don’t see any breaks. Maybe she slipped a tendon?
Anything I can do other then try to keep her from moving around too much?
Poor girl calls for the flock endlessly.
Here she is in her setup. I moved the nest boxes around her to make her feel more safe. And cover part of the top so if any guineas go up there hopefully they don’t poop on her😑

Two years ago when my first guinea where maybe 4 months old and I went out in the late afternoon to get them in their coop one of my birds was acting the same way as you describe , couldn't walk but could flap around the yard. I put here in a dog crate in the garage and she buckwheated incessantly and the other birds would hang outside all day. She kept knocking her water over and she never ate. After a week she was not moving much at all. It was sad. I figure a hawk hit her from behind and did some serious back damage. There where contusions around her back bone.

Oh poor girl!!! I’ve put a chicken in a sling before, but I don’t know if a guinea would tolerate it... it might help you figure out what’s going on if you can figure out if it’s neurological or orthopedic...

How sad! 🙁
She is eating, but I can’t tell if she’s drank at all. She keeps a close eye on my when I’m in the coop. I’m hoping the babies being inside with her will give her a little comfort. It’s sad because her mate is Boss man and he has two other females. He could careless it seems that one of his trio is missing.

I don’t think she would:/ How can I tell the difference?
She seemed a little “off” when I first saw her, laying her head down a few times. But since then she acts completely normal, other then the fact she won’t stand or walk.
She puffs and hisses the way a broody does when protecting a nest.

I guess I’d give her a day before manipulating her too much, in case it’s spinal cord swelling. One thing you could do is pinch her toes and see if she reacts, showing that she still has feeling in her feet.

Thank you for the thread referral. I know it’s not an egg issue at all. She’s still laying normal eggs daily. I will offer her calcium though. I saw that mentioned in the post and haven’t given any to my guineas in a couple months. She’s still eating, drinking, and acting normal. She even tried to get up a couple times. I’m thinking it must be a sprain or something of that nature.
I really hope she will fully recover with time.
