Hello everyone. I'm new to guinea and have just read all the reassurances all is normal in fighting. It is a bit shocking if your only used to chicken fights for pecking order though. The one fight i just witnessed left one of them with searches all over his head and face.
So I have 2 questions. 1> DO only the males fight. Or will the females also fight for there place in the pecking order. And if they do is it not as severe as the males.
Ive read that females have a smaller rounder head and males more egged/elongated, as well as the males waddles being bigger.
But can a total newbie band the ones fighting and be pretty sure that they are the males then verify its a male when i hear/see it make the call Chet Chet Chet Chet .
2. And i know the females are loud as well with there call. But will only having one male help keep things a Lil bit less noisy come spring and summer. Ive read that if you want less noise from a very noise bird to begin with(Guineas) having only one male helps.
The reason i want to know is I'm already pushing my luck with a nabor who doesn't like noise. I'm building a cabin and bath house in the mountains and hear in a week or so when its done will be moving me and my 60 + birds up there aaaahahahahaha.
So I only have 10 pearl Guineas will 1 male make the mating season less noise if there not competing with each other over who has the loudest call .
