My neighbor who had a very open coop and free ranged his chickens never had problems with preditors.
He had a outside pot bellied pig that his kids had grown up and lost interest in.
The pig ranged with the chickens and slept in the barn that the coop enclosure was within.
The pig got old and died and within the next year he lost over 30 birds.
The year after that, all his ducks, geese and chickens were gone.
Maybe coincidence...maybe not.
