I actually pick up "found" dogs that keep bothering my animals. I drive them to a pound 55 miles North of here and leave them. They are "found" strays. I never tell the pound who they belong to because they are simply "strays". I have probably taken 15 of them over the last 25plus years.
Only one stray dog ever made it back to this area, and I'm sure it cost a pretty penny to get him back.
Taking strays to the shelter is the right thing to do. It keeps them safe from traffic and from starving while they are lost from their homes.
As far as the guineas.... I would buy more of them. I am not into keeping the nasty neighbors happy just to keep the nasty neighbors happy. If you really want to be neighborly, get some HUGE geese to go with them. They can make quite a call too. A dozen guineas and six or more geese should really help you know when one of those poor stray animals needs a trip to the humane society to keep him safe from traffic.
