I have 6 110 qt sterilite bins I've converted into brooders, all going non stop, lol. I like the clear bins a little better, they seem to keep the keets a little more calm because the keets can see me coming and they get used to seeing me working/moving around in the brooder room. They do outgrow them super fast tho.

I do like the larger sizes available in the solid rubber made bins tho, so I may cut out "windows" in the sides of a couple of those and cover the cut outs with hardware cloth (I love zipties!).

I also turned an old Miley 2-horse straight pull horse trailer into a giant brooder... they can't see me until I open the door tho, unless they are up on the perches at the back door, so they are a little skitterish, lol but it works really good!

I cut windows in the side of my rubbermaid bins for more air circulation and for the chicks ( i can have chickens here) to be able to see out also, it is so cute to come out of my bedroom each A.M. to see them all lined up peeking at me

It's an ancient saw horse, lol, but it works. And they get up on the sides of it and perch there if they want more warmth.

Just for a size reference, that pile of keets consists of 47 1wk olds.

I just heard my first Buck Wheat today. In a very clear childs voice. My ten are getting so big I am moving them to my home up in the mountains next week. Most were hatched on the fourteenth of May so in two more days the oldest will be four weeks old. They need more room they keep bumping their heads on the roof.

I did a thorough cleaning of the cage today which involved lifting it up off the table and getting all the junk out from underneath. Stripping out the bedding inside the cage and generally a good cleaning. I finally put the Mirror in the cage too. They were all crammed up against the opposite corner from where I was sitting and resting. I was sitting on the end with the mirror. pretty soon they all quieted and the Rubber necking started. and the stepping forward and the bobbing their heads. Pretty soon all were jockeying for a position at the "Portal to another world"

The tallest one Did her Buck Wheat then looked around as if to say "Who said that".... Too funny.

Hi Folks! I got my first ever Keets at a swap yesterday. I have 6 and they are one week old. I noticed that several of you feed cooked eggs to your keets. Are mine old enough to have some eggs and if so how often and do I need to give them grit if they eat eggs? Can the eggs be scrambled or boiled and chopped up for them? I would like to start as soon as they are old enough. Thanks!
