We are all Adults right?

Nope! Not legally anyways, but I sure act more adult than a lot of adults. I think that if the dang guy cant even say the Pledge of Allegiance, then he needs to fall off a cliff. Why should he be President if he doesnt even fully support the Country. That's how I feel. Also, I am 100% against abortion. The whole reason we have diseases is because we cant stop sinning. If they come up with one way to cure it, they can come up with another! Maybe if everyone had a little more faith in God, something good would happen with this Country/World.

BTW: Im a Christian.

This is all so complicated but sometimes complicated things can have simple solutions.
I'm sorry you have to deal with diabetes.

Stem cell research is being touted as the Holy Grail of medicine. Fetal stem cells are
only a small part of the equation. It is sad the non fetal sources are being limited
because most people think all stem cells are alike. I'm antiabortion. I feel it's murder.
I don't think it's the governments place to say it can or cannot happen. In fact,
realisitcally, I believe outlawing abortion will have a horrible affect on womens health and
it would create an abortion black market. I am Pro Life & Pro Choice. I also agree it's
a waste not to utilize these cells that would otherwise be destroyed.

I am not for or against a women president. I am for the person I feel will do the best
job. I support Guliani, conservative on foreign and economic policy, yet liberal on
social issues. I would love to see Condi Rice or Powell eventually run.

Everybody on both sides always fear the worst when someone they don't like
becomes president. I didn't vote for Clinton but I supported him as my president. This
is the same with George Bush. If Hillary gets elected I will accept it and do what I an to
suppport her. I sure as heck won't put ridiculous bumper stickers on my car denouncing
our president, no matter who it is. Bumper sticker people make me laugh.

Berdoofarm, you claim our constitution was not based on Christianity or a careful
study of Roman or Greek democracies. What was it based on?

My personal theory is that if more people were affected by these diseases they would be all the more apt to be pro-cure. (meaning stem cell cure)

See, I don't understand why they should throw away all they have now as far as research goes and start in an entirely new direction. Whether or not people are against abortion isn't going to change the fact that it will still happen. We might as well utilize the cells so the abortions aren't in vain. (Embryos are not killed specifically for the research. The cells are harvested from already aborted embryos)

Ok, ok, going off topic again.

I think it's interesting how people get so offended over the word "god". Just about every religion has some sort of god/goddess. Jews, muslims, even wiccans all believe in some higher power. I don't understand why we just can't use the term to fit all our beliefs. "Under God" could basically mean any god for whatever religion you believe in. I don't however believe in being forced to say the pledge. You should be proud to say it. I don't necessarily agree with kids having to say it every day in school because it takes away the importance of it when you are forced to repeat it like drones. What happens if a kid doesn't want to say it? They get in lots and lots of trouble. Does that sound like freedom? Not to me it doesn't.

As far as the naked hillary picture, it was most likely just satire. Personally, I love a good satirical piece of literature. I just think people don't appreciate how serious of a matter it really is!

Purple chicken,

I am pretty much right there with you. I don't agree with abortion at all, but I don't want the government to take away the choice. And yes! There are other stem cell options! Unfortunately with the lack of education funding was cut from ALL areas of research, instead of just from using aborted embryos.

Like other things, there is a TON of grey area. Personally, I don't care how they come up with a cure as long as they get one! I will support whichever way promises a cure faster! LOL

I really agree with you on this. For many years I was an Athiest. Even then using
the word God never bothered me. I remember the big deal about the 10 Commandments
not being allowed in public places. I found this stupid. To a Jew or Christian the
10 Commandments are doctrine. To everyone else they are moral common sense.

Few thoughts

Separation of church and state was never intended to have taken on the meaning it has in this age. It is NOT in the constitution ANYWHERE! It was written in a letter by President Jefferson to a Baptist minister back East. He was trying to assure him that the government would never take on a State run or mandated religion. He NEVER intended CHRISTIAN religion to be taken out of government. For the first many many years governement leaders HAD to be Christian with a solid belief system. Like it or not, it is what our country was founded on.

When we took prayer out of school and we took the 10 commandment out of school, the court system, and we legalized abortion. All in the early 60's. It is no coincidence at all that in the very same year we took God out of our lives, every social evil, (murder, rape, abortion, etc) went through the roof. Do the research. There is an outstanding book called, The Myth of Separation that looks at all of these issues.

And as a nurse and a cancer patient, I can tell you that stem cells are small potatoes in the whole "cure" debates going on. They bring in tons of money to researchers (yes that is EXACTLY what drives the research industry) and until recently were a strong reason to support abortion and so much of the research companies were HIGHLY motivated to make them a success. And yet, they truly aren't. They are finding over and over that they are not the miracle cure they hoped for, and in fact made many diseases worse, like parkinson. At least now they can practice on stem cells that don't come from aborted fetuses. I would NEVER want my life saved (Even when I was literally dying of cancer) or even made more comfortable (in the face of a non terminal diagnosis) if one cell from a murdered baby was involved. Just my personal conviction.

Some one said on here that they will never be able to take away our right to bear arms. That is a bunch of hogwash. They will and they will do it one teeny weeny step at a time. And they will sneak it in by attaching to totally unrelated bills, and they will do it by buying the politicians. Just because it is a constitutional right now, does not guarantee it always will be. And they will start redefinign the "arms". They will probably get it down to pepper spray or a baseball bat.

And the "Under God" that is so fundamentally part of the Pledge of Allegance, regardless of its origin, is most definitely the Judeo/Christian God. It is most definitely Not Allah or Satan (wiccan). So if anyone is saying that pledge to another God, they are twisting the words of the Pledge of Allegance and that is what everyone is up in arms about, twisting of words.

And one final thought, chickerdoodle, when you say that it doesn't matter whether we agree with abortion or not, it doesn't change that it is still going to happen. Well, it does matter, because if someone is against it they are going to do everything in their power to make it illegal. And benefiting from and indirectly participating in it would be completely unethical for someone who was truly against the stopping of those fetuses hearts.

Wow, so many ramblings, so little time. Sorry, but just had to pipe in on some of these.

So now Satan is the wiccan's god (I've known a few wiccans and Satan wasn't part of their lives). I think it's time to drop the thread. We can all have our personal beliefs and yes, we are adults but some of the posts are starting to show signs of slinging at subjects I suspect the slingees know little about.

Personally, I don't think I'll revisit this one - I enjoy you all too much when you're sharing your chicken filled-life to think that you feel someone like me should fall off the edge of the earth just because I decided to stop saying the pledge all those years ago. I better get to bed, church rolls around early.

Yes its called boiling a frog, you dont throw him in the hot water, he'll jump out, you just put him in warm water and as he relaxes you keep turning the heat up!

If you wont say the pledge ! What in the hell is goin on here? Well I guess so many have given their lives so we can have the freedom to be foolish if we want to I guess! Jeeez

Well this thread may be locked up but I got my two cents in.

Satan (wiccan)

Satan is an entity of Christianity. Wiccans do not believe satan exists infact wicca predates any writings about satan and the bible as well. Wiccans worship nature and the earth. The ugly evil witch is a christian invention to make Wiccans look vile. Dressing as monsters on halloween, the Christians got that started too as a tool to vilify it. Halloween is a wiccan harvest day celebration and has nothing to do with monsters. I think the concept of wicca has been falsified and vilified way too long. They are a peaceful people that believe "do no harm". They believe any harm they cause will be returned to them several times. All that being said I am not a wiccan nor am I affiliated with any other religion. I just believe everyone should choose to worship in their way and not make false statements or vilify what they truly do not understand. Live and let live. I said I would drop out of this conversation. Too many hotbuttons I guess.

I second that emotion. Much of this thread has been absolutely amazing to me in that I didn't know Americans with internet access could be like this. It's like a whole different country exists where people have a mythology about their origins, their own religion and the rest of the world, and what the outside world (apparently consisting of non-Christian liberals, much in the same way that old maps used to say "here there be dragons") must be like. I say "mythology" because it seems like most people do not want to know any better, do not want to know about the real history of the US or even their own holy books, just in case it turns out that something they thought they knew was wrong.

Here's a suggestion for you fine Christians: read the Gospels. Really, really read them on your own without the help of televangelists or your minister. Pay particular attention to the Book of Matthew, because most ministers (on TV or not) don't spend too much time on it. Chapter 6, verses 1-6 and Chapter 19 verses 16-24 might be of particular interest: Public prayer is forbidden by Christian gospel, as is amassing wealth.

Another suggestion: When you're visiting your old granny or grampa over the holidays, have a nice long conversation with them about all these social ills you are so against. Ask them what really happened to all those "bad girls" who left school unexpectedly or went on "vacation" (the old excuse used to be "a ski trip to Europe" if her family had money), what the old Pledge of Allegiance used to say, what life was really like in the 1910s-1950s for women, gay folks, and people of color. You might be quite surprised. It wasn't all that nice in many ways.
