Because: cat like claws mean cat like infections.
Fishers round here are known for day time hunting. Very rarely do any bears in our area pose a danger. They're fairly docile actually, often run off soon as they hear you.

Bears have claws too. They too kill other critters to eat.
Every Fisher I've seen has wanted nothing to do with me, but I've had bear stalk me when I was turkey hunting, as he thought I was a turkey.
Every wild animal has the potential to carry some sort of bad stuff, a Fisher is no more of a threat then a barn cat.

also what would your guys thoughts be on a sks for bear defense? got a Russian one, that was pretty cheap. (so using it in the woods not a big deal.)

also i get 5 shots before reloading (in Canada semi autos center fires can only have 5 rounds in the mag) 7.62x39 is cheap to shoot anyways and its about equal to a 30-30 i have been told.
Make sure you get yourself hunting style ammo with the soft lead point. Do not carry FMJ Ball ammo that they sell so cheap. You'll poke five holes in the bear, if lucky, and it will still probably kill you before dying it if wanted too. FMJ doesn't kill very fast, it is made to penetrate body armor. So many people recommend the shotgun with 00 buck because it is hitting and animal with 7 - 9 30 caliber, soft lead, round balls.

Like this, notice the lead point on the bottom one. This is probably twice the price of FMJ ammo also, but it is designed for soft tissue contact, not body armor.

thank you, not sure what kind of ammo i have for it right now all i know is it's not FMJ, ammo is pretty cheap here in Canada for 7.62x39, compared to rim fire its pretty costly but also comparing to a shotgun or even a 30-30 its cheap.

and i can get one of those crates for target practice purposes (what are they like 1500 or 1000 rounds)

well i might of just bought a Kentucky flintlock rifle. :)

i have wanted a flintlock for quite some time now and saw one at a gun store, so i had to have it. its a traditions and in 50 cal

turns out we don't need a fire arms license here in Canada for flintlocks. but made me wonder why percussion cap muzzle-loaders are classified as non-restricted but flintlock as antique? this is my second muzzle loader as i have a Thompson center 50 cal hawken is percussion cap. :)

I would imagine that, similar to here, flintlocks don't fall under the category of firearms, rather they fall into the category of antiques, so no paperwork is required.
the weird part here is only flintlock, wheel lock and match lock fall into the antique area. percussion is deemed a fire arm. and requires us to have our fire arms license to own and use. and then if its a flintlock pistol for example it falls under the same laws as a normal hand gun, meaning it needs to be registered and only allowed to be shot at a range, yet a flint lock rifle you just have to be 18 to buy. confusing.

Any collectors out there??? 5 carved, painted American turkey sub-species. Complete set, kept in box, never fired, pristine condition. Ready to part with.

well i got drawn for no big game this year :(
which i expected.
was really low in status for mule deer and i just skipped every thing else. (or what we call 99 it. means we enter to keep/upgrade our pool status for moose and pronghorn.)

anyone do spring turkey hunting? no turkeys where i live but i enjoy reading and watching people hunt turkeys (don't know why though)

also family bought some land, (for farming and hunting) but pretty awesome, its 160 acres, with 20 hay and the rest mature forest. and was told this spot is loaded with bear and deer. also told there is a herd of elk in the area.

I'm a turkey hunting fanatic. Spring is my favorite season for gobblers. I get more excited calling for first time turkey hunters. Watching them get so excited when a tom is coming in gets me more excited than being behind the gun myself.

This is my grandnephew.
Little back story.
My nephew Mark died in '97.
In 2001, I took his younger brother Adam turkey hunting. He took his first tom with his late brothers 870 under the same tree mark took his last tom under in '96.

Adam passed in a house fire in 2011. His kids wanted to do something there Dad loved to do, hunt...
This tom was taken by Adams oldest, my grandnephew, Kaden under the same tree, with the same 870.
