Opps, wrong photo. That's his second turkey.

This is his first.

The following yr, his younger brother, Dominic, took his first turkey. Under the same tree as his uncle Mark, his dad, and older brother Kayden, with the same 870.

RIP, guys.

I have a .22 Savage model 3 rifle that I would like to modify. I'm having a hard time sighting it. I would like to add a scope or peep onto it but don't think it's possible but thought I'd ask and see if anyone here would have a suggestion.

Yes. I'm getting old and my eyesight isn't what it used to be. I'm after gray squirrels. I used to be able to hit them but now I'm missing more than I'm hitting. I just want to cut the population down. They chewed the tubing to the windshield washers on our truck. It was a real pain to put new tubing in.
This is a picture from another website but is the exact rifle.

You might get away with see through scope mounts. They should raise the scope high enough so the bolt will open, close.
I'd bring it to a gunsmith and get his opinion. Depending on the cost to drill, tap the receiver, cost of the base, rings and scope, you might be better off looking for a nice used rig already set up.

Plus it's a good reason to buy another gun.

I don’t think those had grooves for scope mounts... I’ve got an old Cooley .22 that is almost ( if not) the same exact design.

I think your Savage might be worth a bit in original condition if it’s in good shape, so besides the cost of having it drilled and tapped you’d likely be devaluing the gun... which would be a shame.

Second to that if I recall the reviewer is pretty thin and the action pretty simple so it might not even be a good candidate for drilling and mounting... been a few years since I looked at my Cooey so I don’t recall.

So if it’s not an heir loom you might consider selling it as is and buying a new .22 with what you get out of it.

Just some thoughts... but I hate seeing old guns with unoriginal holes in them... so I’m a little biased, lol
