Gun legislation- anyone heard about this?

When this sort of garbage going on in "our" legislatures is posted anywhere, I wish the links would include one to contact one's representatives, or find how to do this. Not everyone readily knows how, or even knows who their rep's are.... Agree this is an abominable bill.... Chip away, chip away some more.....

Agreed about ammo -- in GA ammo has gotten expensive and hard to find -- i don't even know whether laws have changed or whether it is just the scare, but it has certainly affected the market. Local WalMart was essentially out of ammo....

I'm a gun buff, I have many, they are locked in my safe. I am not a felon, I served in the military, I'm trained on how to handle and treat guns, I am a responsible gun owner. For the last 233 years owning a gun was a right given to all non felon Americans via the 27 words of the second amendment of the US constitution “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” the last 4 words are what really stick in my mind, shall not be infringed. Pretty frank and to the point, shall not be infringed. How does registration of all firearms make any sense at all when compared to those 27 words?

Equating the right to keep and bear arms with the privilege of driving just doesn't work. We have an inalienable right to defend ourselves. Creating more laws upon more laws for us law abiding gun owners does absolutely nothing to stop criminals (who, by definition, break laws) from owning and using firearms. Bad guys will always have guns. Take the guns away from the good guys just makes the good guys potential victims.

My Dh has no problem buying guns if he wants them. He is in the army and can get licenses for pretty much anything.
That shooting in Wampum PA will just help them reach their goal. For you folks who dont know , a 11 year old bor shot his 26year old future step mom who was two weeks away from giving birth to a baby boy. He used his own shot gun and pulled the trigger holding the rifle to her head while she was sleeping.(and then went on to go to school, herbody was found by her four year old DD)

That they would even try to pass this ticks me off. Do they really think the criminals are going to obey the law?

And the government coming into my house to check on how the guns are kept? I don't think so!!!!

Guns are like seatbelts. You don't put your seatbelt on because you are going to wreck. You wear it to protect yourself in case some toehr idiot hits you. Guns are a tool to help you if you need it because if you need it and don't have it you are a victim. 9-1-1 is nice but no police officer can be there that fast. We are the first line of defene between the home invader and our families.

My opinions of course. No offense to anyone who disagrees.

OK Let me get this straight

It is OK for them to tell you

at what age you can get a driver's license
what you have to do to earn it
what kind of training you MUST have to be allowed to get it
What kind of shape said vehicle will be in
the right to inspect or insist on inspecting that vehicle at a minimum of once a year
the right to govern how much insurance you carry on that vehicle
and then how you use it.
Physicals and reporting of medical conditions which can allow them to take it from you.

And no one complains

But the right to own guns should not be infringed at all? Granted cars DO kill more people than guns do. But, why is one acceptable and one not?

(I think that law is over the top and am certain it will never pass, but just thinking.....)

I don't see the problem here. Shouldn't owning a gun legally be reasonably similar to owning a car, another potentially deadly weapon that can be stolen and used to injure others or for illicit/illegal acts?

How to track the proposed legislation, which will never pass anyway.

Ok, somebody explain how in reference, that the fact of driving is relavant to owning a gun. Ill go through a few points:

1. yes a car can be stolen as well as a gun. Good point

2. a car was never referenced in the 2cnd ammendment. It talks about maintaning a militia for the security of a free state. Hence- firearms.

3. a car does not & should not have even been mentioned in any relation to what this bill is trying to do. This bill should not be even entertained in HR and is such, a travisty. This is a steadfast fact and a BINDING law and no it's not an "old Piece of paper", it is still in effect. for those that don't know, im talking about the 2cnd ammendment. I won't quote again, due to buckeye daves already doing it, and very well might i add. This is a topic of very that is percieved by the "higher ups" as grey area. But if you put this to someone who has done military time, understands fully how to handle and safeguard firearms, and hold true to themselves the basis of what the 2cnd amendment was trying to instill, this is a very hot topic. I would advise other BYCers here that if you decide to comment on this, to choose you're words wisely because this topics will blow up fast.
