I would go 'Eeek!'....just like I just said to myself. I want to keep stating that I am pro responsible gun ownership, but I wasn't raised with them.

It makes me very nervous to think you carry a gun with you everywhere. Why do you need to do that? Out to lunch!? Really!? I feel like this takes 'better over prepared than under' to a new level.

Is the gun on you loaded? I would hope not....that I would find very stupid. I just feel like it's so easy for accidents to happen. Take cars for instance - we take them everywhere and they are generally deemed safe by the people who own them, but no one is perfect and even the best drivers end up in accidents (the one I was in was the fault of the tire, not the driver). Seeing as it's not essential to carry a gun everywhere, why do you risk such an accident? (Read: brainless football player Plaxico Burress).

I am NOT ok with the recent passing of concealed weapons allowed in bars (with permits). I do not think that EVERYONE with a CCW would not drink with their gun on them. Alcohol + anything that has high chance of hurting some one should NOT mix.

However, if you would like to carry your gun on you late at night, out hunting, while banking, or in the 'bad' part of town, I can understand that. Are my thoughts unreasonable? If we really want to come to 'a meeting of the minds' I really need to understand why you need to take your concealed weapon everywhere.

Gun "accidents" are very seldom accidents. They result from people handling the gun improperly. Contrary to popular belief, guns do not just "go off". A responsible gun owner can carry a gun on their person every moment of every day with nary an incident ever occurring.

And also..why do people think that crimes only happen at night or in "bad parts" of town?

Thank you for posting this... I was looking for it to post in this thread but couldn't find it...

Here I am, a gun owner, (hand guns, rifles, shotguns...) a hunter, and a personal safety, property and livestock protector. I live in Wyoming. I'm vocal about it if pressed, but find it to be as much a part of my life as my car. I'm proud of that right.

In the course of this discussion, am I a redneck? Am I a lunatic right wing hunter dingbat who, to do these things, brags about it and has them for "no reason" as you say? Am I a hate monger? A danger hoarder? An ego extender?

Based on what I have said, and the opinion you have already placed on me, clearly all of this is pretty accurate, correct?

See what you think now -
I am, a Liberal, (well... mostly), A conservationist. I have a rare Beretta shotgun custom made in Italy, it has engraving done by a master and is by all descriptions - beautiful. I stalk stag in Scotland. I have Jack Russels in a place where two have been killed by coyotes in the past year. Because I'm a filmmaker, we spend time in the high country out of cell range where problem Grizzly Bears amass. We had a man break into our house, come up our stairs and hide behind a door while we were asleep in our bed. We have a small flock of beloved hens that attract predators. I have a Grandfather whose friends and trainees died in WWII who gave guns to me that hold memory of true dedication and sacrifice to his country. btw - Many thousands more would have died within these borders if his America didn't have the reputation that it's citizens were armed. Enemies knew better than to invade a country of armed citizens. Were they "Rednecks"?

One thing that can be said about broad assumptions, is that they usually bring about more danger than the thing itself. They grow blinders, cause name calling, and breed intolerance based on a passion created on mis or limited information... At the very worst they create needless wars .... at the very least they make one look rather thick. I'd say that is the more tragic American right of freedom.

Am I a Redneck? Perhaps so... but I'm relatively educated, refined, in touch with the core of my nation's belief system and informed compared to one who stands pointing fingers creating labels. (and yes, my flock will be more productive than one protected from predators who are deterred with spritzes of lavender)

By the way... when did it become a label generator to say that I'm proud of my nationality?

But....you're so much more likely to die from a heart attack, or a car accident, or cancer (or some other ailment) than you are likely to die under gunfire.

Based on accounts from The Armed Citizen, the mere sight of the gun scares the criminal off - if this is enough, it's really that necessary to have it loaded 'just in case'?

In terms of being 'uneducated about guns' you'll need to elaborate. I know how to safely transport, fire, load/unload and handle guns. I understand that a loaded gun is capable of killing people - is this where my education fails?

A loaded gun is only capable of killing people if a person fires it.

ETA - a loaded gun carried properly in a holster won't kill anyone.

If a criminal isn't scared off, and you have an unloaded gun...

then what? Are you going to throw it at them?

Good point, I was wondering about the whole "I hope the gun you carry isnt loaded" comment.

Imagine this, robber gets in your car and takes you and your kids hostage. Can you say hang on while I load my gun?? Umm no, so yes mine is loaded when its on my side.

And who cares..Hes a CRIMINAL. If hes robbing you/raping you/stealing your child...well..then...i guess its his problem that you have loaded gun isnt it? When did we start to feel sorry for the thiefs and drug dealers/rapists ..etc..in this country?
