Gun Owners and Non-Gun Owners should come to a Meeting of the Minds

What are they good for though? The only round that hits dead on is the 1st round. If you have a full auto, they are just about useless. The reason why the Army switched to 3 round bursts. Even 3 rounds isn't much use in civilian life. I can see where you would want it if you were clearing a house with bad guys in it though. Well you never know we may all need to live in a Hollywood movie sometime. Dawn of the Dead or something. Of course you have to hit Zombies in the head so you would probably waste 2 rounds.

Actually I was talking about the semi-automatic ones. Although I have used the other. The semi-automatic one I have was made in the czech republic and comes with a 5 round and 10 round clip. It is one of the most rugged out of the box rifles I've ever owned. The caliber of the rifle is very similar to what I use hunting, and the accuracy is decent up to 200 yards (farthest I've used it). For more accuracy than that I've got a .308 stoner or a 30-06

There's really nothing farther than 600 feet that I want to shoot on most days though.

I'm sorry. I was thinking semi auto was 3 round burst. Stupid me.

I'm a 19 year old female. I'm a proud member of NRA and NWTF. I've loved to hunt since I was old enough to start going with my dad, I protect my animals, and if need be, I can protect myself. When I turned 16, I took my hunter's education class. I spend a lot of time on my own out here in the country, and it's very dark at night. Generally we don't have problems with crime, but our neighbor's house was broken into 6 months ago. You can bet your last dollar if someone breaks in on me at night they'll have a surprise coming their way.
Some people will always be irresponsible. Some people own guns because it's their hobby, as I do. Some people own guns to protect "me and mine", as I do.
"I think what gun owners need to realize is that when you say 'you have a right to a gun and I own it to protect myself', you sound like a redneck who wants to shoot things for no reason (no offense intended)" I think there's nothing wrong with shooting things for no reason (skeet shooting, target practice), or owning a gun to protect yourself. I own a gun for my own reasons, and so do they. They don't need to explain themselves unless they've shown that they can't handle the responsibility that comes with owning.

Beyond that, the government is growing and getting it's hands into every aspect of our lives that they previously weren't. There are so many people now that want to change what our government orginally stood for. When the founding fathers wrote that the people have the right to bear arms, that's what they meant. They keep chipping away and away at it.

Sure, if you don't own a gun, that's your right. I have nothing against that. You're even welcome to your opinion about my guns. Bottom line is, owning a gun is worth it if it saves one life: mine, my family's, my pets, my neighbor's. It only takes once to regret not having one too; that's each person's choice. Hope I'm not out of line; I respect the people who make the decision not to own guns just as much as I do people who do. I just get upset when peoplw tell me I shouldn't have one and that govt will take care of me.

A lot of gun-owners do great things for the environment, too. Our clubs and associations have, for years, been putting our money and time into conserving wildlife and land and helping to put acres into preservations. It's like that commercial says to the green movement, "Welcome aboard."

I'm intelligent, active in various hobbies which require a gun and I'm well able to make my own decisions. I'll not have the government or anyone else dictating that because some people can't be responsible, I can't own a gun. Honestly, it's the people that don't own guns that end up the butt of this. Criminals will still get guns while law-abiding citizens won't. Where will that put us? Hold the people that are irresponsible with them accountable. Here's a few quotes.

A man with a gun is a citizen, a man without a gun is a subject. Our forefathers knew this to be true..... Why do so many of us question their wisdom? -D. Michael Wiechman, May 14, 1996

"No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government."
-Thomas Jefferson, Proposed Virginia Constitution, 1776, Jefferson Papers 344

"Among the many misdeeds of the British rule in India, history will look upon the act of depriving a whole nation of arms, as the blackest." -- Mahatma Gandhi

"I ask, sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people...To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them." -George Mason, during Virginia's ratification convention, 1788

"The usual road to slavery is that first they take away your guns, then they take away your property, then last of all they tell you to shut up and say you are enjoying it." -- James A. Donald

"A government that intended to protect the liberty of the people would not disarm them. A government planning the opposite most certainly and logically would disarm them. And so it has been in this century. Check out the history of Germany, the Soviet Union, Cuba, China and Cambodia." --Charlie Reese, syndicated columnist

"The said Constitution shall never be construed to authorize Congress to infringe the just liberty of the press, or the rights of conscience; or to prevent the people of the United States, who are peaceable citizens, from keeping their own arms..." Samuel Adams

Lt. Lowell Duckett: "Gun control has not worked in D.C. The only people who have guns are criminals. We have the strictest gun laws in the nation and one of the highest murder rates. It's quicker to pull your Smith & Wesson than to dial 911 if you're being robbed." Special Assistant to DC Police Chief; President, Black Police Caucus, The Washington Post, March 22, 1996.

"I sympathize with people who want to ban guns, but I can't agree with them. We have to be careful in our zeal to abolish guns that we don't wind up with counter-productive legislation that will leave armed only the people most likely to do harm with them." -- Hugh Downs, veteran ABC newsman

Everything has been going up steady since the recession started in summer of 2007. Bullets have been skyrocketing in the last 6 months. Strange how the brain responds to propaganda.

If people would stop stocking up for an all out massacre, the prices would go down. I don't own a gun a probably won't but you all have me thinking twice.

See what happens when you done turn on this machine for a few days, a topic like this almost gets by you (me).

Anyone that has ever read a post of mine knows how I feel about guns, everyone should own at least 2. That is after they have been properly trained in the use of the gun. And are able to hit a kill shot at 100 yards 7 out of 10 times. To the first person and each person there after that trys to take my guns from me, I will say this, RIP

My dear Uncle Sam thought I was the wrost shot on the rifle range when I first went to qualify. They kept making me shoot right handed. When they told me this was my last chance to qualify, I went to the line and hit 9 of 10 in the bullseye with the tenth just outside the line. They made me shoot another 10 shots which I put all of them in the bulleye. From then on I only shot lefthanded.

My only wish when I left the service was to take my 30/06 single shot with a 36 inch barrel and scope to die for with me. They wouldn't let me have it. But I do own a 30/06 that can and will reach out and touch a bullseye or 2 at 500 yards.

I still feel every young man and (young ladies if they feel the need) should be made to spent 2 years in the service of his choice. Not because we need the military power, but because they need the training they can get only in the service. It breaks mommy's apron string.

Now, Please ladies take it easy on an OLD MAN.

i can agree with that, but i dont think women should be in the military, except for maybe supporting roles..as for actual combat, no way.

I trained with the Italian Army while I was stationed in Germany. Compared to the US Army they were a bit of a joke. They had compulsory enlistment. They had very few lifers and were short of NCO's. Result being that their discipline was low. Their weapons were filthy and their tracked vehicles were in terrible shape. We showed them how to do it though. We were Red Legs and we showed them how to put three rounds on target in 1 minute.

I still tend to agree with you though. I saw a lot of street punks grow up while I was in. They know how to make everybody equal.

like a baby. However I do have 3 daughters (12,10,5) and I have told them to go into the service. I hope they do not go to war and see combat first hand but this is the best training they can get and it will make them a better person I believe. My nephew just got dismissed from the Navy. He hasn't been cancer free for 5 years. But most of the males in my family have been in one branch or another. Some Navy, Air Force, National Guard, and Army.

Well after reading all these posts again decided I will exercise my constitutional right. Gonna go pick up a handgun purchasers permit application at the local P.D tomorrow. I'm thinking a Glock in 40 sw.
