I'll tell you one thing I do know. When the crud hits the fan and this country spirals even further down the pipes, us "rednecks" will happily be able to provide protection and food to our families.

Guns are our lively hood. We have bows n arrows but a gun is a much more efficient tool to feed a large family all year long. I don't even know anyone who doesn't own a gun - besides here. Guns are a very, very important part of life where I am from.

--- And we do like to shoot things for fun too...not people of course

but because target shooting is F U N!!!!

---I have the right to be able to protect myself too. I live far out in the woods and my DH works from 6am to around 3 or 4pm. I am all alone. This is perfect situation for some sicko who wanted to come in to rape and kill me...luckily I have the ability to protect myself and I won't miss

I love that the climate on this Forum shows respect for ALL types of chicken OWNERS, from those that keep them as pets, kinda like the Floridian, "Mr. Clucky", to those who butcher meat birds for profit.
WE A L L here want to keep our right to keep our chickens.

The whole premise of this discussion is flawed. Try to get a non chicken owner to raise chickens, to see why we love them, care for them and yes, sometimes eat them. Good luck with that. As a hunter and gun owner, I have zero problem with you if you are afraid of guns, don't want them in your house, or whatever. Go ahead and let your govt feed and clothe you, and I will be just fine without you. But do NOT tell me what to do for my own well being.

There will never be a "meeting of the minds" over gun owners and non gun owners. We have to prevail over them, to maintain our rights.

Guys and Gals everyone has missed something here Guns are a great item to have but without ammunition it is pretty much a paper weight. Guns has killed very few people at all but bullets is another whole story. Right now they are trying to tax your ammunition another 300 percent so what that means they are trying to disarm you but just legally. So that being said always hit where your aiming because ammo will become too expensive to miss.

That is not exactly true. I am still afraid of guns and I don't want one in my house. But I was happy my neighbor had one. I still have my personal objections to a gun in my house but no objections to a gun in your house.

gotta remember the ammo!!

Yup, and when the jackbooted thugs come for your guns and ammo, make sure that you give them the ammo first.

I think Farmboy was referring to the ultra liberal nobody-should-have-guns crowd, not people that support the 2nd ammendment.

I think it is the ones who DO care what is in his house that farmboy was taling about, not your type of non-unowner.

As long as I dont tell you you have to have a gun, and you dont tell meI cant have a gun, we should all be happy. However, there are a lot of people trying to tell us we cant have guns, and those are the ones who will never have a meeting of the minds wth us.

That is dead on what I am trying to say.

I think maybe the point here is that "the person saying it". If the person is SAYING they have a gun for personal protection, they may very well be a little too enthusiastic about it. I'd be willing to bet the majority of permit holders never mention they even have a permit. If not for this discussion, I'd never bring up that yes I have a permit.

And I have a feeling this topic is getting way away from being "predator" related and more political. But I'd hate for a political issue to deny me the access to shoot a coyote or any other predator that might be after my chickens!

Actually, most people who know me know that I carry. It's quite simple for me, I live waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out in the boondocks, but I take in foster kids from the inner cities. Many times their biological parents come looking for me and for their kids. Why would somebody want to take away my rights to protect myself? If they already know I am armed and willing I have less problems.

Guns are tools plain and simple. I loved the T shirt i saw on happy gilmore.... guns dont kill people, I kill people. Funny. ha ha.

They (brady nuts) are passing with the help of our dear president on creating an ammo tax as well as having to have every round of ammunition serial numbered so you have to register whatever whenever wherever however you buy ammo so EVERY round is accounted for with the government.

So............. 50 from years from now when democracy crumbles and they see that over his lifetime Mr. Craven has purchased 40,000 rounds of many different calibers and types I'll be one of the first ones raided

You don't have to have permits to own rifles and shotguns

There is this old man in the next town over. He has these hand painted signs up in front of his property "Crazy Man Lives Here - You Stop, I'll Shoot" We get a big laugh out of this man but you know....I have never seen another truck in his yard LOL

I love property protection signs regarding guns. "Tresspassers will be shot - Survivors will be shot again"

....all you have to do is have a sign and folks will think you are armed!

This, IMO, possibly might help from keeping your home broken into if the burglers think you are armed. They want easy prey -
