I am new the forum but I am going to try and throw my couple cents into this. Owning a gun in America is a right and not a privilege like some believe. Owning a gun is as American as raising chickens and eating apple pie.

Some one needs to take the time to explain that guns aren't scary....well, more likely that they ARE scary and should be treated with respect - but that they don't fire by themselves at other people's faces - they need a person behind the trigger, and most people behind the trigger are defending, not attacking. Quite frankly, before I met my boyfriend the LAST reason I thought you would own a gun is for protection. If this can't reasonably be explained to a hesistant american we will all lose our rights and I am not looking forward to that.
