Thanks for all this info! I got my concealed carry permit last fall and have been sort of shopping for a handgun. Haven't had much luck so far. The dealers seem to think because I'm a woman, they can rip me off and I'm too dumb to know! So, I'm still searching for someone honest enough to deal with!!! Sad but true.

Guys, I will start supplying your ammo.

There is no shortage of it here anywhere. It is kinda more pricey than a few years ago but not much more. Every store around here carries ammo and plenty of it for any type gun but everyone around here mainly hunts to feed their families so it is like a staple here -

This is true - why dealers think women don't use guns is beyond me LOL But they will - Then they are mighty surprised to find out you know as much about a gun as they do! My DH buys our guns for this reason - I hate being treated like I am a teensy little woman that should be scared of a gun

Research the type of gun you are looking for and a few others. When you get to the dealer's table (or shop) act very knowledgeable and confident. If you are at a crowded gun show, muscle your way right up to the table. Use very specific terms to say what you are looking for. When he tries to show you the overpriced little pink 22 pistol, look him square in the eyes and say, "No, I'm interested in the xxxxxx type of pistol or rifle." If you are being ignored, loudly say, "Oh my! I have super human mutant powers. I must be invisible because he can't see me. I guess I'll spend my money with another dealer." They wake up real fast when they think the money is walking away.

lol .. must be all of AL .. my hubby traveled through there a couple months ago and had to call several of his buddies to take "orders" for how much ammo they wanted him to buy for them ... lol

I never allowed guns in my house. I always felt if you had it you would use it and afraid the kids would get ahold of them. THEN i got chickens and we have Coyotes. We have two guns in the house now and I have shot them (and missed) several Coyotes. We keep them up high and the ammo locked. I actually feel good about having a gun now. We are careful and responsible. My opinion has been changed.

Yep when I went cash in hand to buy my BMW motorcycle, the local dealer salesmen kept ignoring me and waiting on every man who walked through the door.

I walked out the door, drove to a nearby town and walked through the door and asked if anyone in there wanted to sell me a motorcycle. Next day I rode my new BMW back to the local dealer and purchased some little cheap gadget and of course mentioned how I'd "tried" to purchase from them the day before but they appeared to be too busy to wait on me. Never went back in there again and rode to the nearby town for all purchases after that day.

I have definitely noticed the same thing around here, but instead of not noticing me, the WHOLE shop was like, "whoa! Look at this! Lets help this poor little woman out!" Like I knew nothing.... EVERYONE wanted to 'help' me.

But now they are used to me, and when I walk in, they are like, "Hey, Michelle. Hows the kids? What do ya need?"

Ha! I showed them....

In case you're read this and are thinking about getting your permit and buying your first gun, here is one NOT to buy: a luger(pistol.)
Pretty yes-accurate, NO!

Perhaps. But many of them might just be capable of observing the direction things have been heading over the years and making clear minded interpretations of the data.

But here is the political reality.

Republicans are never going to support gun control. Democrats, regardless what they believe, have come to the conclusion that gun control is the poison pill of politics. They have to carry "red" states in order to win the White House and keep a majority in Congress. They are not going to do that if they back any form of gun control, no matter how reasonable such a law may seem.

Now, that is just little tweaks in the law. Imagine what would happen if they supported an all-out ban on guns, or the (justified IMHO) repeal of the outdated 2nd Amendment. It would be political suicide. They would never see the White House or control of either house of Congress for the next 50 years. Besides, all those blue dogs and moderates they persuaded to run won't let it happen. They would vote against it on principle.

That's reality, folks. It just ain't gonna happen. Your guns and mine are safe. So, relax and enjoy the security that comes with that knowledge.
