To all BYC members:

My apologies to BYC, to you, and to any others who I may have inflamed with my recent comments. I have been an FBI Certified Firearm's Instructor, training Law Enforcement Officers and civilians alike in the use of firearms for 20 years, so I think that I have a little bit of credibility on the subject. The tone of the OP's response to my posts showed absolutely no respect or regards for my opinions, yet I've been admonished for exerting mine.

Since I'm new here and don't have anywhere near 8500 posts, I've learned where I stand in the pecking order. I'll keep my posts restrained strictly to subjects that I don't know anything about, i.e. chickens, from now on.

I dont think its a pecking order thing... He just getting berated OUTSIDE of the forum by someone who obviously cares WAY TOO MUCH what the dern thing is called and came on here to see if anyone else makes the same common mistake. I saw no disprespect in any of his posts, yours just showed that you get way too hot and bothered over trivial things. But to me people lose credibility when they needlessly involve grammar in unrelated discussion. Its childish.

X2. So very true.

Magazine... not clip. :) Do NOT get me started!!! :)
And they are muzzle brakes... not breaks. Look in the MarlinOwner's forum in the [Rimfires] section, under the thread "Peeves" to find my entire rant on this topic.

The gun snobs I am dealing with call it a magazine. Thats what a lot of people seem to say is the only right word. I have never actually heard anyone call it that in real life. Everyone calls it a clip here. I figure it is a regional dialect thing an will not change to make other happy.

Talking with others something came up. My grandfather that raised me was in the navy in around 1945. In the navy the word Magazine is a place not a thing. Its where ammo goes in the ship. May be why I was raised to call it a clip.

I don't think its a big deal. Its just something that makes language interesting.
Others act like I burned a bible or something though.

Sorta funny though. They keep talking about "guns" when the word gun actually means a smooth bore weapon like a shotgun. Most modern weapons are rifles. Even most pistols are rifled so they are also rifles.

And revolvers are not pistols.

They are not "gun snobs" just people using the correct term. Once they have seen the same mistake made a few hundred times, it probably gets on their nerves and they turn into Snippy McSnarkypants.

Looks like "magazine" wins, in the poll. What if you posted this question on a gun forum? Where people who know guns A LOT, hang out?

This thread seems like you are trying to garner support for the incorrect word, by polling people (who are not into guns), to prove to people who know better, that you are right.

If I showed all the guys on the 1911 forum a picture of a chicken tractor, they would probably call it a "hen house". On here, very nearly 100% of the people would spot the wheels/size/configuration and call it a "tractor" :)

Don't get me wrong. I like words. A lot! And I used "clip" until I knew the difference. I've been around guns for over 30 years. I am still embarrassed by my mistake and when correcting a new guy, I do try to be gentle... even though I fail, sometimes :/

When my oldest son was around the 3-4 year old age, he called it the gun battery. We still call it that sometimes!

The people making a big deal out of this is proving my point. I asked what word people use. Not what is correct. Simple question.

Being attacked for asking the question, an where I asked the question. An god forbid, the mountain man with one hand types non perfect posts.
I'm sure if I wanted to know how much of the actual population knows who Joe Namath is, the Superbowl would be the place to ask for real world results.

As for the results. I dont think anyone is surprised. The point was that clip is so widely used than no one is going to get confused so there is no point in being rude about people using it.
Sorta like the word Dominecker. We all know about this but we don't go around throwing a fit cause the old farmer down the road use the word. An that can be confusing.
