Gun people again.

Not asking what is the correct word mind you but what actual word do you actually use day to day to

And Broadway Joe played college for a little coach named Bear Bryant at a little school called The University of Alabama. (YOUR current National Champions, Roll Tide!!) The coach of the Jets at the time gave Coach Bryant his first houndstooth hat, which he wore or a new one until he died. You can't toss a cat in Alabama without hitting something that is houndstooth.

Just an FYI

Yep...2004....that was Ivan. It got ugly here, much worse for our brothers over in Pensacola, Gulf Breeze, and Navarre, though.
We went without power for only about 3 days, and lost 3K worth of meats and vegetables in the freezer. Folks just to the west of us went without power for almost 3 months. I decided immediately after Ivan that I was buying a generator. 650$ for a generator vs. 3K in groceries is a no brainer. Haven't had a single power outage since. Oh well, the genny is here if we need it again.
Beers y'all,
Ken

Even though I was born and raised an AUBURN fan, fuzziebutt, I am always super-proud of any team from Alabama that is doing well. A few weeks ago I was hollering "ROLL TIDE" with the best of them.

I am an SEC fan, so whatever team in the SEC wins, I am happy. But I sure thought LSU would win again!

Shut up already, will ya' 33yardbirds? I think that I just about had rebelcowboysnb about to let the whole thing go, and you go and dredge the whole thing up again! Jeesh, I only have so many mea culpa's in me, and you're making me double up!

rebelcowboysnb, if I'm ever up in Dade Co. GA, or if you're ever in the Panama City, FL area, the beers are on me, Hoss.

Beers y'all,

Heh, heh, heh, devils advocate.

That was one of the wildest vacations of my life. Probably one of the dumber things I have done in my life too. Me an my brother took my truck down followed by my cousin an his wife in his jeep Cherokee. Everyone had some time off so we thought we would go watch the hurricane come in. We got a room at the Sea Witch hotel on the beach in leguna. We got up on the 5th floor. Saw some sites waiting. Spent the evening before at the hooters on the beach. Great view... It had actually taken longer to hit than expected. We went back to our room an hung out for the night. Problem was we ran out of time an had to get home. That morning it was far from over but we had to go. Got to our trucks. Water was knee high at them. Easing inland was not to bad till we hit the highway north where there was no wind breaks. The wind kept pushing my truck around an at one point a tree blew across the road as I was going by an it hit us in the side knocking the truck across the road. Couldn't read any signs cause they were flapping to fast. Roads were empty though. We stopped for fuel just across the Alabama line. Had to hang on to the truck while pumping gas. As we headed north the wind slowly let up but the rain didn't stop till we were close to Tn. When I got home I was beat. Fighting that truck had taken everything out of me... But what a ride. I had a blast. Maybe one day I will get to do it again....

Whenever you hear the news mention anything about an airport, the reporter will work HARD to include the incorrect word "tarmac". Sometimes they have to go pretty far out of their way.

Tarmac is asphalt (tar and macadam mixed together). One ingredient not used in the manufacture of any surface a jet may rest or roll upon. Back in the 1970s when the terrorists were hijacking planes, a British journalist mistakenly said "The terrorists leaped from the plane, onto the tarmac." Since that day, tarmac has meant "runway". [long suffering sigh]

Runways, ramps and aprons are made, exclusively from concrete (not cement, which is the powdered stuff you mix with water and sand/gravel/aggregate). If you try to roll a 737 over asphalt, in say 70 degree weather, it will dig deep grooves into the surface, from the pressure of the tires. If you stop the plane on the asphalt, you had better like it there, because in seconds, it will sink, irretrievably, into the surface. The very small jets (like the ones you cannot stand up in) and small prop planes can be stored indefinitely, on tarmac, as they are light enough to "float on the surface".

I'm not just a gun-snob! I'm also a runway and building material-snob!!! :)

I almost forgot... From Wikipedia (if it's on the internet, it must be true!):

Yes. You can load the internal magazine, on my Remington 700 with a stripper clip as well. Although I don't know anyone who has and I've never even seen one. It only holds four rounds and it's not like the deer are shooting back so I've never pursued looking for one :)
