Gunieas laying eggs...

Quote:
They will be OK as long as nothing else discovers them, fertility will not drop enough in the couple days of sitting, they (and all birds for that matter) will lay in the same spot till they feel there is enough eggs to sit on. A chicken does the same thing, if thier broody type, they will lay eggs till thier body says to sit, at which point they sit on whatever is available, and due to owners gathering eggs, usually is not thier own eggs, but they dont seem to mind, they will sit till something hatches or in the case of guineas outside till something discovers them and has them for lunch.

Are guinea eggs always white? I have a pair of guineas now that I keep with my chickens and should start laying any day now (if they haven't already....I haven't noticed any particularly pointy eggs yet). I want to make sure they will be easy to tell apart since a lot of my chickens are also just coming of age so their "first" eggs aren't always full sized and normal shaped.

I have 15 guiens that are 7months old. 8 months in 2 days;). I can't wait for them to lay. My grandpa wants to fry them up like chicken eggs. He also wants to butcher one of them.

Guinea eggs can be light brown and even a bit bizarre in color. White is not necessary the norm.

The pics at the beginning of this thread shows a Guinea egg and really they are very different than a chicken egg.

The have a harder shell and one finds them in odd places. If you see a Guinea sitting be SURE you keep this location in the back of your mind. Chances are that Guinea will start the Communal nest, but not all Guineas (as I have found) use the same laying area.

Incubation a Guinea eggs usually brings a nice percentage hatch.

I have never found a "pullet" Guinea egg, they are usually the full size.

Hope this helps. I LOVE MY GUINEA FOWL
