Guns!

Thanks for all of the information and tips everyone.

I know ultimately that function is more important the form, but that doesn't stop me from drooling over something that looks purty to me.

And recoil is definitely an issue for me. The last time we went shooting (Labor Day weekend, it was part of my birthday celebration) I ended up with *major* bruises on my front shoulder area and I was sore for days. I realize that it has a lot to do with the fact that I was using our friends guns, and his stock is accordingly scaled to his height (he's at least a foot taller than me!). So with an appropriate stock, I'd be in better shape, I'm sure. I'm also very interested in the autoloader, although that may be cost-prohibitive for us at this point.

I'll try out the stances next time I have the opportunity to shoot, too. Our friend who took us shooting is a very well educated gun owner, and my husband was in the infantry many moons ago, so between the two of them, and the advice I'm getting here, hopefully I can improve my stance and marksmanship.

Remington has a 20 ga youth autoloader that often gets a tempting sale price at Dicks. Keep an eye on the sale flyers and you might be surprised. Plus youth guns show up used when their owners grow older. Great for us petite gals.

Here's DH's black guns.. Only gun I think he doesn't own yet is the Barrett 50cal. Safe is so full the floor is sagging.. **sigh** Course it's not totally his fault, a few of them are MINE!!!

Here are a few; Russian Saiga AK, Walther P22, FIE SA .22 and when I need to reach out and touch something, the German K98 Mauser converted to .308.

"omg... I want that Mauser!"

It's mine! All mine!

Not a common gun, most are 8mm. Israeli military converted some to .308 and there are very few around.

Exactly why I want it... if I had the money I'd be collecting. I was trying to get a hold of a lahti to be a conversation starter lol, just could never get the money. Chickens steal it from me.

Here's something I ran accross and tried for my Ruger 10-22, sub-sonic 22 ammo. They are made by CCI, 22 CB longs. I fired a few in my back yard and they sounded like a pellet gun. My kids in the house didn't hear me shoot out the back door. I was able to shoot through a 2x6 laying on its side and the bullet was about 2 inches deep in the sand. So they seem to have power even though they are slow and very quiet. I think I paid about $7.00 for a hundred from midwayusa.com
I forgot to mention that these low power 22 rounds will not actuate the bolt in a semi 22. In my Ruger I have to manually eject the shell. A bolt action would be fine.

I have a Benelli Pump shotgun also. It is one of the ultralight ones, I don't remember the model.

I love my 7mm Mauser for deer hunting in WI, I inherited it from my dad, he bought it from his uncle when he was a teenager. I also have a 300 Winchester Short Mag for elk hunting.
I have a 22 long rifle for squirrels and plinking that I bought when I was in college. I have a neos 22 semi-auto and a couple of 22 revolvers for target shooting- a Bear Cat and a Heritage.
For plinking, I have a brand new M&P 22.
