My buff Orpington is making this gurgling sound. Didn’t notice it until we integrated the 2 new chicks into the coop yesterday. A couple of times she tried to cough I guess and it was muffled. She’s eating and running around. Could it just be a new sound because of the new chicks? Please help.

Also I would feel of her crop to check if it may be full and puffy. Crop problems such as sour or impacted crop can cause food and liquid to be vomited up into the throat. Also look for any nasal drainage that may make the nostrils appear dirty, and for any watery or bubbly eyes. If it is a respiratory disease, it can be caused by mold fungus, a virus, or a bacteria. Infectious bronchitis, MG, coryza, and aspergillosis are some things to read about. Here is a good source to compare symptoms:

Gurgling noises can be from an obstruction or from a crop disorder. Have you felt her crop? If it's full and very squishy like a water balloon, she likely has sour crop. If the crop is full and hard with lumpy material, it may be impacted.

It's wise to rule out crop disorders first when you see a chicken is not behaving normally.

I used an all natural ointment meant for coughing and sneezing. It’s seems to have helped her. Now it just sounds like she’s congested. No runniness form eyes or nose. And her crop seemed to be ok.
