Gut Busters for the Week of 1/4

What happen to all those folks who wanted to join us on the very first thread?!!! Could it be that they have blown their New Year's resolutions already?!!!

Stayed up late again last night reading the book my doc told me to get. Very interesting stuff. A lot of what is in here goes along the same lines as the Mediterainian and Sonoma diets. So there is some science behind those 2 diets.

Breakfast---slept throught it.

Lunch--2 small ham sammies on yeast rolls, large glass of milk.

So far today is pretty good!

Brkfst - granola bar & coffee
Lunch - 1 bowl of venison stew

I'm hungry now though, since I ate lunch early...trying to find something decent to eat...maybe another granola bar.

1/08/09

Breakfast:
2 hardboiled eggs
hot chocolate

Lunch:
minestrone soup

Dinner:
spaghetti with garlic bread
pepsi

Still room for a new addition here?

I kept seeing the different threads but I wasn't sure what was going on. I'm not big on New Years Resolutions but I am a fan of doing more active and healthy things after all the holiday indulgences. I especially like to do stuff like eat healthier and get organized in order to combat the typical winter crankiness and restlessness.

Also, I really would like to have a healthier lifestyle in the interest of health and happiness. My husband and I are trying to conceive and losing weight is important in terms of my issues. That's why I could use the extra support I might find on here.

That being said:

Breakfast: 1 orange and an egg sandwich (not the best but it was good tasting)

Lunch: A lovely Slim Fast shake. I'm not usually a fan of those but they were on sale this week.

Dinner: I'm going to try a recipe for salmon salad sandwiches and I think I'll make some roasted red potatoes, a rutebaga and another veggie.

Oh yeah, I did start working out the other day. I put in an old school Susan Powter video on Tuesday and did some aerobics. I'm not sure if I'll get another workout in today but I'm going to try to do it at least a few times a week.

How can you just have Slim Fast for lunch? My stomach would kill me if that's all I gave it! I just had a mini bowl of cereal for a snack.

If I keep busy I can hold out for dinner. If not I have a good stand by for a fake-out snack.

Banana "Shake"

1 large banana
about a cup of milk
teaspoon of sugar
teaspoon of vanilla

throw all the ingredients in a blender and that's it. You won't miss the ice cream. I sometimes substitute the sugar/vanilla with a little french vanilla liquid coffee creamer (sugar free is good). You can also throw in some other fruit and have more of a smoothie with peaches or strawberries or whatever you like. This is a good way to use of bananas (instead of banana bread

I agree about the slim fast thing. I tried that before and my stomach starts talkin' up a storm if I don't give it something solid to work on.

i just wanted to share I just found The Alli Diet Plan book in Dollar Tree!
we're not taking alli but the book has alots of recipes, calorie counts for common meal items and fast places real nice for just a Dollar!

Hi Chicky Joy! Glad you could join us. Yes, the threads were a little confusing for a bit. We will be starting a new thread every week with the title Gut Busters and the new date.

Susan Powter! LOL I never bought her videos, but I do remember her. I went the Tae-Bo route.

Well, we have a lot in common.

Kelly - you are killing me with all the venison talk. i haven't had venison in ages. I'm sure there are other names, but my Dad's favorite meal was s#*t on a shingle made with venison. Mmmmm. Memories. He's always holding out for a stupid buck so we haven't had any venison in a looonng time.

Coyote - Your book sounds great. I'm trying to get veggies in whenever possible, decrease carbs, really decrease sugar, and eat smaller amounts of meat protein - lentils, nuts, etc instead. Sweets are really hard for me.I think its genetic. My diabetic grandmother used to hide chocolate in her undie drawer.

So here's my rundown:
Did not work out - child still at home. Tomorrow she's in school no matter what. I was running around a lot cleaning the house and dusting the banties and their coop for mites. So not a couch potato at least.

Brkfst: 1 slice of bread with peanut butter; salami and crackers for a snack (still clearing out holiday foods)
Lunch: Bowl of spinach and broccoli with a bit of pasta. Yogurt Parm salad dressing on top.
Strawberries for a snack
Dinner: Quinoa salad (quinoa, chick peas, black beans, red onion, and red peppers).
Chocolate snowman for dessert. #**%^*&@ Santa Claus!
