My son is 11. We adopted him at the time of his birth and we never hid the fact that he was adopted from him. It has only been once that he wondered if his "real" mom gave him away because she didn't love him. I assured him that she gave him up because she loved him so much. I would be ok if he wanted to meet/know her. Only she can fill the void that he has knowing she gave him life.
I would reccommend meeting him in the summer so he won't be distracted from/with school. It will be good for you both.
