Had a chicken die and not sure why

She died while I was at work. She was outside and had some blood and some black stuff coming from the business end. Could this have been from an egg laying issue? I had one die last year like that except for the discharge. Any thoughts?

What breed, how old, anyone else sick, other obvious injury, feathers scattered in the yard?

Oops I should've added that. I work 12 hour shifts and had not been home long before typing. She was under a year and was laying. Breed. Hmm can't remember what she was. She was dark black speckled (not a rock) and had a flat comb.

I have a couple chickens that seem to be recovering from molting (nasty) and she not attacked by anything.

I have no idea I am just going to throw this out there so you will have something to research. Cocci perhaps, probably not but worth checking into.
