Had a rough day ... thanks for the verbal hugs!!

Thor is a flemish giant. And someone may have mentioned that he's not full grown yet?!? He was born in March, I think... I don't know a whole lot about rabbits... that's hubby's department. But I called dibs on one of his offspring, so I guess I have to learn now, huh?

Chip is doing well this morning. He spent the night in the heated garage with a lamp, and is eating and drinking. He's not 100% chipper yet, but getting there.

Now if I could just kick this cold...

Big Hugs, Tori...now look in your cupboard and find that apple cider vinegar and some honey, put a spoon of each in a cup of hot water, it'll fix you right up! Make it weak if you can't bear it strong and drink it morning, noon and night. Its an old Vermont home remedy I've always been thankful to have found.

Keep Chippers inside for a week, once cold, he'll easily chill right now. Then I'd let him stay in w/some hens when he's feeling much more himself cause anything will stress him right now as he recovers.

Flacon & I practiced again this morning, his crowing was the best today after a few tries;) Hugs again! Cheryl

Wow! That is a big Rabbit! He's cute!

I second the ACV and Honey, I like to add some lemon juice to mine, and if I am really sick I chop up some ginger... yummy!

I think I have drunk a gal or so of APC tonic since I got the cold I am finally getting over now!

((((Hug's))))) to you Tori , hope things will warm up soon for you some! I could not imagine that! But I have always lived in the South and never visited to far up north in the winter time

Sorry I am not a big comfort, am I ?

I will go find my ACV and honey and try that. It's not surprising that I got sick... cold temps like this and me running out to the coops every half hour to catch eggs before they freeze... I'm chilled now, and something hot would be loverly.

We just unloaded a truck-load of feed, and I've been cleaning out the quail room (AK_button_mama has all my Buttons now! And is building an incubator!!!

) so I can store feed in there until Spring when it turns back into my brooder room.

The sky is a cold steel grey today... clouds came in and it's actually warmed up to -15F today. Hopefully by tomorrow we'll be above 0F, which sounds so warm after -30!! I don't know how anyone in the Interior stands the winters up here. I suppose it wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have to go outside so much, huh?

They say staying inside is what makes us sick in winter. But with cold temps like you have and getting warm then getting cold. That has got to do a number on you.

Have you heard of Zicam? That is what we use when we start sneezing or getting a scratchy throat. It comes in a spray or these tubes that are a once use deal. I like the tubes. You start them as soon as the cold comes on and continue to use them for like 3 days afterwards. It has helped shorten our colds and made them so much more bearable. Plus I believe in the chicken noodle soup too and lots of water.

Hope you feel better soon

Thanks Wendy... yeppers, we have Zicam here, though I haven't tried it. I really don't get sick very often. Only on NYE

Sheesh.

I've had a couple of cups of the ACV/honey water, and dang, that's not half bad!
big_smile.png
I can't say that I feel better yet, but I just did my last rounds and I'm staying in for the rest of the night. It warmed up to -12F, so it's actually 19F in the coop right now... feels VERY nice!!

Amazing how warm 20F feels after a week of -25 to -30F.

I'm sure the girls have cabin fever by now. I may cook up some rice or grits for them tomorrow to lure them outside for something warm to eat.

Well, good news/bad news... the good news is that after a couple of days of the ACV/honey water (which is really not bad at all!) my cold is gone. The bad news is, so is Chip.

We noticed yesterday that he was having difficulties walking, and being a millie he has a lot of feathers on his feet so the fact that they were really swollen was hidden from us. I figured it was because he had frostnipped his feet, and expected a little swelling, and was prepared to give him time to heal. Today, my husband noticed that his feet were turning green. Infection...
sad.png
Really bad. And his toes on his right foot were starting to turn black. So, we decided to put him down. He was my baby, my momma's boy, and I'm really sad to do it. But, his face was crooked so I couldn't breed him, and he was going to be crippled even if he survived the infection, and it just seemed to be the right thing to do. I said goodbye to him, loved on him, and let him go.

*sniffle... I'm going to miss my Chip-Chip.
