Had Cat in Coop, warning shot gone wrong, HELP!

I haven't read all the posts, but my thought is...
Anything in RI about Leash Laws?? Even a cat in Md. has to be leashed if outside...or at least STAY on its own property.

If it were me, this is what I would do...

1. Not say anything to the neighbor. Period. Your mom was protecting her property.

2. If it comes to court (either civil or criminal).. Have a list of costs of your chickens and their worth. How much each chicken costs, cost of feed, and the cost of eggs that would be lost IF the cat had managed to kill the chickens. Let them know that my chasing the cat off BEFORE it killed any of your chickens, you saved them the lawsuit for replacement of your property. It will probably easily add up to the cost of the vet bill, if not be higher.

3, If it comes back either get a picture of it harrasing the chickens before chasing it off (as proof) and call the cops yourself... or forget the pic and SSS.

And get the property thing taken care of, sooner than later.
