No way........a dog that kills cannot be trained Not to do it....I have a dog that will behave to some extendt when I am Right there, if I so much as turn my back he will grab them in a min. He has killed mine and I have had him trained and retrained and its hopeless, it's an individual thing, some dogs will kill and some wont, I have both................And I know how you feel, I am SO sorry for your loss, I cant imagine having them all taken away like that, Im glad you are getting more, and Im sure it wont happen again, but dont let anyone tell you the dog can be trained not to do it again, sorry to say.

MY lab is in the yard everyday with the chicken unnatended.. he does fine. He chases them every once in a while, but they just fly up to the fence post and watch him. He cant get them, there tooo fast.

Yeah my Eski does the same thing. She went after my two pit mix pups when they would stick their heads in the bin we kept the chicks in before the main brooder. Super protective, but I think it also comes from the fact she is super motherly, like to the point of nursing my cat when we first got her.

I'm so sorry for you loss, I had my chicks out one day and nearly punted by brother's Dachshund across the yard when he rammed into the chicken wire trying to get to the chicks.

This just breaks my heart, I cant even imagine this happening. My own dog killed a pullet I was so proud of a couple years ago. Its the worst feeling when your own pet is to blame. I am so sorry this has happen to you.

I would love to be able to let my dogs out when my hens are free ranging, but I know that they would attack them. I have Rhodesian Ridgebacks, they are sight and scent hounds and have a very strong prey drive. It would be unrealistic of me to expect them not to attack my birds. I know that there are always exceptions, but I am not willing to take the chance. Someday, perhaps I will have a breed of dog that would be ok with my chickens. For now, the dogs stay in when the chickens are out and I put a sign on the backdoor to keep them in.

Your poor babies. What an awful thing to have to go through. I can't even imagine how upsetting it must be.

I am soooooo sorry for your loss....my brother had the same tragedy last summer with 9 of his baby chicks...their dogs got in the pen and killed them! Not easy to lose beloved pets, let alone at by another beloved pet! Again, I am so sorry for your loss. Be well and God Bless....you are in my thoughts and prayers.
