what you did was increased the co2 gas the same gas you exhale when you breath and took away the o2 (Oxygen) what we breath in to keep us alive. Suffocation is what you did and its very effective in culling animals and its painless

I may have to do this with one of mine too.
We discovered it Sunday morning legs all splayed out to the sides.
We have the legs taped for now, and it is in a separate box in the brooder so it doesn't get run over by the others.
It is still eating and drinking. It ate some meal worms today.
But I just don't know how long to keep it like this.

Did you guys try taping the legs on yours to see if it would help?

Mine is 2 weeks old too.

This isn't the brooder. I just had it out on this paper for a minute to offer it some food, and take its picture.

I think he was a cochin and I had one years ago that was like that- I think their legs go out like some of the Cornish x rocks chickens. The one I had before I raised , but he had to stay in coop his whole life and his legs always looked so raw and painful from crawling around. I just didn't want this one to have to live like that. Your little chicken is cute and hopefully the tape will help him- got my fingers crossed.

Just a note on the CO2 chamber. The method of having the baking soda/vinegar cup in the container with the animal works great for immobile animals. The reason why the original website said to use a container attached with a hose to the chamber is for an active animal because an active animal will knock over or get into the vinegar mix which would not be good.
