Had to help a chick to hatch. ALMOST 2 WKS ON PICS!!! pg.2

LOL I stayed up all night with her on my hand. Now I know what it's like to have kids

Finally slipper her under Ma at 3:30AM (it was storming until then) and I'm going to get a pic now

Ignore the makeshift equipment (ferrero rocher box, 100 watt bulb, medical freebie thermometer...I wasn't expecting to help a hatch and after all I read I thought I wouldn't...)

We helped one hatch last year, picked shell off for two days then she got stuck to the wire bottom, and we freaked out!! I tried soaking her off to no avail then used a butter knife to pry her off !! She lived! But couldn't stand. I gave her a few baths to get the sticky albumin off of her and fed her and gave her water. After four long days, every day assuming I'd wake up or get home to find her dead... She was able to walk! She was much smaller than her siblings but she started to grow, and now you can't tell at all! She is laying eggs and a sweet girl!!

Here he is fully dried out with Ma. I can still recognise him because he's the smallest and the only one who still sits on my hand

I had to help him once or twice when Ma moved too quickly. He's a day behind everyone else and somewhat more easily tired

Note: It was raining and my fear of slugs and snails got the better of me before I could take more individual shots (Selling some soon), so there are only a few good photos. Sorry!

Almost 2 weeks on and the chick is doing much better. It still hasn't got much in the way of wing feathers, unlike its siblings, but at least now can keep up and has a healthy appetite

@magicpigeon- YOUR BIRDS ARE BEAUTIFUL!!.. Those Roo's!! wow! I only have one silkie and she is a mutt, i may have to get some of your birds.. PM me with some info if you are interested in selling some of your eggs. I would like to do a full run of just silkies (36 or so) since they enjoy the humidity much higher than the other breeds i raise... Anyways sorry for the rant, but those silkies are GORGEOUS!!

I had a bit of a scare that one of mine wasn't purebred (see the yellow looking one

) but it's getting it's dark pigmentation now, so I suppose the breeding line is not a problem
