Wow totally uncalled for BYC!!! I am appauled! Can't you tell the man likes chickens! Geesh! Some people don't have the time and $ to figure out why the chickens are doing this. See a problem remove it seems simple to me. I'd have eaten her though

Please don't leave BYC because a few people got upset over what you did. Everyone can have an opinion, but some need to be a little tactful. You did what you felt you had to do. I doubt the hen will suffer----you took her back to her original home, after all. It's better than just locking her out of the coop one night and letting a coon or something get her. I understand you didn't want sympathy, but I do feel sorry that you had to make such a decision----I had to get rid of some roos because other roos were picking relentlessly on them, and I took them to a co-workers farm, and he put them in their own cage----for acclimating them to the flock, and eventually gave them a pen and some hens of their own. Hope your other 2 hens are doing well----at least you did something.

I'm not the kind of person to judge. I know alot of people that don't agree with some of things that I do...but you had to have some kind of idea that people on here would think what you did wasn't very good. I'm not trying to bash you, but come on...You said that you pretty much threw her over a fence and left her...

If someone did that to a dog or cat that would be considered animal cruelty.

I had a barred rock that was pretty much eating her friend's backs. I increased the protien, let them free range more, gave them extra toy/treats, etc...nothing seemed to work. Once she drew blood there was no stopping her. It was a hard choice to make, but I had to cull her. One chop with the axe and she was done, then she gave us a great meal.

Your going to have all kinds of opinions on this forum, thats part of the fun I think. I've learned so much from everyone. But do keep in mind that everyone on here is a member b/c we love our chickens. It doesn't matter if they're meat chickens, layers or just pets. They still deserve a little respect from us.

Really, folks? Taking a clipped wing, albeit nasty tempered (possibly, cause not established) hen up the road, pitching it over a fence on someone else's property and leaving it for predators to attack is considered okay? Clipped wing means it can't fly- therefore no roosting in a tree, even.

Much kinder to man up, cull the bird with an axe and honor it by making chicken soup.

Your post was not off the wall. You said your view and gave a nice suggestion

But darn people on here can get a little nutty=/ I was just taught to respect my elders I guess. There is a right way and a wrong way to express an opinion. IMHO
