Half a chick and still alive

It's dark outside right now but I will tomorrow. The chicks are in their brooder outside in the coop. I moved them out of the bathroom today to give them more room to fly around.

Interesting but way over my head!

Mine too, but I thought the chart was helpful, good to know that sometimes it just "accidentally" happens. Could be genetics a mutation or an accident but the best news is your chick can live a full normal life. :)

My husband thinks it's just a birth defect. That's what I thought too until you mentioned the rumpless birds. Now I don't know but I'll take more pictures. I don't plan on selling this little chick so I can take good care of it.

I raise Araucanas. That is not a rumpless chick. I can see tail feathers, Araucana chicks do not have tail feathers. Araucanas also don't have 'puffy' feathers on their face.

I didn't say it was an Araucana, I know it is a mixed breed. I was questioning if theyAraucana was the source of the blue egg gene if it were possible to also pass down the gene for being rumpless. The article also said that sometimes there are accidental (which I would take to mean birth defect) chicks that are missing the last couple of vertibrae which would give it that appearance.

I'm looking forward to seeing this one feather out! Odd but cute little thing
