Half of flock sneezing and has runny nose, one is raspy

Hey Dawg, how about that Denaguard? I personally do not know much at all about it, really nothing about it, but read that some are using it for MG/CRD maybe? They are not suppose to build a resistance to it.

Hi, im no expert but i took my silkie cross to the vets yesterday with these symptoms. " runny nose, sneezing, gaping mouth cos hard to breath, crackling chest & runs". 4 others have the same symptoms. The vet said they have gape worm! We do have a lot of wild pheasants hanging around. He said they get a blocked nose and sneeze cos there compensating not been able to breath properly through there mouth. The crackling chest is the gape worm in there windpipe. The runs is because they not getting food inside them and what they do eat is not dijesting. I also went onto "ask a vet on line" she told me the same thing. The vet gave me Flubenvet for 7 days and a chicken tonic for there water. Like i said im no expert and your chickens might have something totally different. Good luck, i know how heart breaking it is

Hi

Yes I agree with the last post gape worm is horrible but not sure if all of your birds would be showing the same symtoms at the same time. It could well be mycoplasma, I've had it recently in my flock and it spread from my old girls and into my new chicks. I got some tylan soluble from my vets and a week of that in the water cleared everything up. I had thought that my old birds were carrying it and was trying to be really careful with my biosecurity, going to see my youngest birds first and then working back to the old girls. But the virus stays active for a few hours after leaving the bird and I must of managed to get it back to my young uns. The vet told me that the problem with myyoplasma is that some birds wont show symptoms and those are the ones that remain carriers and then could re-infect your chooks when they are going through stress times like moulting or introducing new birds.

Good luck with your chooks hope they pull through
