5 blood rings. 2 with visibly cracked shells. The kids deny even looking at the incubator. I'm not buying it.

Might need to lock them up or tape it shut.

WOW! Power was just out here for about half an hour! The Incubator was out and went down to 80, but was not that low for more than 5 minutes. I RAN to the incubator, and wrapped it with towels before I started looking for heating elements, But before I could find some the power was back on!
Not bad time at all..they should be good! Especially if it only got down to 80 in there!![]()
yeah, They just went into lockdown tonight, so its one of the best times for it to do that...

So sorry the little backwards chick didn't make it. Well sorry this is so late just got home from a wedding. Been a busy day. Miracle was doing poorly this morning. She couldn't stay balanced and would barely take any water. This afternoon I got a bit more in her. Fully supporting her while she drank I repeatedly offered her water knowing that every bit I get in her carries with it much needed electrolytes and antibiotics. I'm not gunna lie I completely thought she would be gone when we got home. We didn't intend to stay so late but seeing family you don't get to see very often well I'm sure most if you know. I prepared myself when I looked into the incubator and there ... Running around her strawberry box cheeping excitedly was my little Miracle. Oh gosh how can I hope? The ups and downs are just about killing me. Still I fight. This afternoon I was questioning if she was suffering. Tonight I feel a little hopeful again. I hope this chick never ceases to amaze me. She drank much more willing and downright excitedly tonight so much so that she kept attacking the measuring spoon and forgetting where the water was. She still is not eating to our knowledge but she is starting to show a little interest in food. Tomorrow we will try some baby food possibly. Along with the chick crumbles. Anything to get nourishment in her. She seems in good spirits and as she ran here and there and everywhere tonight when I too her out I couldn't help but smile! She's a silly little thing as she cheeps and bounds here and there. Finally as she cheeped and cheeped she ran over to my hand clambered into it as I held it up slightly cupped to block her from careening towards the kitcen floor. She literally pushed into it pushing the cup sideways where she clambered into it snuggled up and promptly made super happy chick noises and fell asleep. Mike who was watching looked at me smiled and said she's definitely imprinted on you. I'm Mommy! Isn't that the greatest thing! She's such a sweet little chick! She's just gotta make it! After a cuddle and some more water, an attempt at feed and her nightly iodine wash of her belly(and a warm washing of a mildly pasty bottom) I put my wiggly little Miracle to bed well see what tomorrow brings. If she looks as good as she did tonight her and brother will be moved out to our porch brooder where I can check them many times a day and keep a close eye on her. I believe we are getting to the point where both her and brother need to get out if not for her illness and not wanting him to be alone they would have already been moved. I also believe she will benefit from having a big brother to help encourage her to eat and drink. Also I wanted to make a note. Her hobble is already off after this morning I believed it may improve her ability to stand she will be watched closely for signs she needs it back in but so far so good. She also did not end up needing boots as her feet straightened on their own. I'm so proud of her. I know we're by no means out of the woods. I believe I'm catching some mild smell if infection from her but that could also be leftover from her fluff. Although she is nearly all fluffed up this evening. I am treating her with oxytetracycline hci this is the only water soluble antibiotics we had on hand. If anyone else has any further suggestions or knowledge for yolk sac infection treatment please let me know so that we can adjust accordingly. I want to give Miracle the best chance possible. Much love everyone goodnight all I look forward to hearing from you all!cant wait to see as they growThats great that she is doing so well!! you are doing great with her sorry about the DIS

While I love our roosters/cockerals we will never have that many. For the pure reason of we like to free range our flock and the boys are so rough on the girls. Yesterday my Pebbles(my favorite EE currently molting and naked on the back) was gang raped by three or four cockerals that are headed for the freezer the second they were let out. Well you can bet those are the first to be processed next time. Anyway they were pretty awful and in the time it took me to cross the yard they tore her back up and gave her a few small cuts. She came in and some blue koted and hard-boiled eggs later she was good as new. We don't have any saddles yet but plan to get a few. I would make them but I don't have a pattern. My poor baby I was livid! Pebbles OS a hen that one of her first pullet eggs broke inside her and two days later I had to soak her and help her get out a crumpled stuck shell. Thankfully after that she was fine. When the egg broke all the contents were expelled. She's been my baby girl ever since loves snuggles and talking and follows me around talking my ear off I swear Sometines she thinks I understand her and sometimes I almost think I do. To an extent of course I think every chicken owner learns some calls and their meanings.I can have boys. I already talked to my husband and he doesn't care if we have 20 roosters running around. As long as they don't fight or pick on the other animals or attack us or the kids, they can live in peace. I actually love hearing my roosters crow, and the sounds the turkey's make are interesting.
Yay! Love the color so sorry about the eye. I would run to the feed store and pick up some Terramycin opthalmic ointment it's cheaper from the vet and the exact same stuff! It's usually in the cat or dog section. It's the same stuff you would use on a cat with an eye infection. I've also used it on my cat when he got scratched in the eye it works wonders! A little goes a long way!My last EE from this hatch was out when I woke up this morning!unfortunately it had a small piece of shell under its eye lid. I flushed with saline, but the eye is still crusting over every couple hours and the corner of the eye turns up at the back. otherwise it's a very healthy chick.![]()

I think it does have a scratch and no I don't have any optic meds in the house, just the saline drops. Funny thing is I JUST threw out expired meds from a couple years ago when my cat got a scratched cornea.
Love it but that is also so gross!! Lol Before I forget I wanted to ask about your response to my last Miracle message was that a good "Dang girl!" Or a bad one? Sorry I know I over think things. It's the wine talking lol. Big storm here tonight praying for rain but no power loss. Seems okay so far! Praying for rain BC if we get rain DH2B gets the day off tomorrow and he so needs it. Plus I miss him! Farmers give up so much in the spring and fall.I know we saw this before but I think its so cute!!!![]()
