The drake made it through the night and is already up and roaming about as if nothing had happened. Having been so upset at the possibility of losing him, I stuck the most recent duck eggs in the incubator without much thought. Now there are 11 mixed duck eggs in the incubator, lol.

Even more good news, there is a newly hatched quail chick in the brooder. It was peeping quite loudly and demanding attention! lol. This is great news because I have had the worst quail hatches all summer. First the quail stopped laying. Then they started laying but nothing was fertile. Now, I am still only getting about a 10% fertility, but the cooler weather seems to encourage the male to get his job done. So, let's hope things keep improving.

Today is day 7 of our incubation of our silkie eggs. I'm afraid to candle them. I don't want to have to toss more eggs. I think out of the 8, I only have 3 that are viable, and that's not saying much since I still have 2 weeks to go.
