HALLOWEEN Hatch-a-Long 2016 w/ Hosts, Mike, Sally & BantyChooks

I have 5 eggsunder a broody, due to hatch october 8th.
I'd like to join! This is my first broody and first hatch!

Awesome :fl

Long story short, I dont know! They were not from my hens, because I had a nasty roo who's genes I didnt want passed along. I asked for help from the Pennsylvania board, and had a woman offer me eggs. Any hatched hens will be olive/blue egg layers.

I can understand the bad roo!! Good luck on the new eggs!!

Too bad on the roo. Hoping for a good hatch for you. I have 10 eggs under a broody due Wednesday so they don't count for the Hal. I'll have to start some more soon.

:fl lol!!!

Great photos...no fair!   Always wanted my own horse.  Always.
mine is a registered lippett Morgan with lines back to the founding Morgan- Figure
She's a sweetheart I trust her with my 4yo completely! She rides and drives :love

I was waiting for the SPR to begin laying in the next few weeks. I was counting on a broody starting.
 I have a hen in a nest. The Rocks aren't separated yet. Tomorrow they will be, but... For the life of me, I don't know how I was planning on a hen becoming broody exactly when I wanted her to.
We will see what is going on in the morning. I am not giving her mutt eggs though.

Day 18 for one of my broodies (it's like an epidemic with these Australorp girls). Of the 5 remaining, one is too dark to see into. The other 4 look great. Chicks are starting to push against the air cell membrane. Pullet eggs always seem to hatch a bit early. Might have babies tomorrow morning.

For your dark one(s) use water candling... It awesome. You put warm water in a small cup, make sure it isn't over 101 or under 80 degrees... They wiggle if chick is inside moving. It's great for not drying them out too...

In other news, my lone Hedemora is hatching! Yay! I have 2 small eggs with it left, one or both may be pheasant... I kinda was a dumbass and didn't mark either the pheasant or the Serama... Goober. I've moved 2 small eggs that aren't far enough along for sure to different bator, but still have two that I can't really see through and they are white/cream, and wiggle in my water test... Hoping for pheasant(supposed to be the exotic ones, not ring necks)... I'm still on track for Oct 3rd hatch day, and now getting further into the month because I have issues and have to "catch them all" as Pokemon coined the phrase... I need Chicken Anon rehab already. It's like Meth...

Staying tuned!

What are the odd that the eggs in the incubator are still good? Lost power this afternoon for about 2.5 hours. Lost power again and it still isn't back on yet. And, we are reaching the three hour mark.

I have a car adaptor so I can plug the incubator in, in the car. However, about 5+ minutes after the power went out we heard gunshots coming from somewhere in the nearby area. So, I am not stepping outside "period" until after the sun is back in the sky.

Heat up some water bottles if you have them...get the water pretty hot..stick a couple in there. You will be surprised at how well they can do with a little het. Keep the bottles really warm until the power comes back. Yeah, I wouldn't go outside! Good grief!

How far along are the eggs?

Less thank a week.

I don't think I can heat up any water. Everything in the house is electric. The grill is an option, but it is outside and the time here is 2:39 am.
