Congrats! Success at last!

haha, I have another batch of eggs to put into the incubator silkies.

My first baby had a gigantic fluff on it's head, where-as the other's i've hatched, don't have fluffs, wonder if that means this one will be bearded? Or just a higher quality silkie?

Hi everyone. It was a long night and when I finally went to bed I didn't have much hope for Miracle but I had gotten some food in her again and I knew it was leaving her crop. Unfortunately this morning my little Miracle was gone. She fought hard and we gave it our all. She was a chick that I never expected to make it out of the egg and then day after day went by and I couldn't believe what a fighter she was. I think in the end the infection was spreading and was just too great for her to fight anymore. I could finally see some dark in her abdomen. Man for those first several days I was hopeful that she had dodged the bullet.
It sucks and for the moment her brother is alone. I have a friend who has also been hatching and hopefully she'll make it out with another chick or two so that he doesn't have to be alone.

While it sucks I'm glad Miracle didn't languish for days. She made it 5 days and her first four were incredible. She was seemingly healthy, active, and the sweetest chick I've ever met. It wasn't really until her last day and a half that I could tell she was declining. I'm glad she didn't suffer long had she still been alive we would have ended her suffering today. It was quite clear that she was failing last night at 2 am.

Goodbye Miracle I hope I never forget your sweetness.

Thank you all. it means the world having friends who understand that a tiny chick or not it still sucks and drags your day down. After last night I fully expected it to be today but I hoped and prayed that the food would help her. I wish I had snapped some pictures of her snuggled in my hand. Somehow I never had my phone within 20 feet when it happened. Thank you all for the support and hugs. It's always so hard getting attached and cheering them on and putting your all into it and losing them anyway. I find it's the part of this hobby that I really detest. I love my flock but losing the young ones is always difficult.

Mine are on day 19 an so 20 as far as lock down goes... no pips as of now. Got 24 week old chicks growing from Welp, my 11 3-5wk olds... just added the 8 2 wk old Hmong I won, and get another 15 2-day olds from Ideal tomorrow or the next day... still have 2 incubators going... I think I went nuts lol

I'm looking for ppl in N Cali to take the extras I don't need or want, 6 sold already... we'all see how the rest go...

mine thought me getting 14 ducks was nuts. LOL



He doesn't blink twice about the chickens, but the ducks, apparently 14 was too many???? LOL

OMG!!!!!

I opened the incubator to check on the upside down pip and was hit by a HORRIBLE smell! The upside down pip is still alive and the smell wasn't coming from that egg. I took out the 3 serama that looked like they had collapsed air cells and opened the tops. All where dead, and sure enough one smelled terrible with a green yolk

I cant stop smelling it!!!! I didn't touch the egg with my hands but I washed like a dozen times. The smell is in my cloths so I changed but I can STILL smell it! The incubator still definitely smells BAD and I'm worried about my other eggs.

I'm really bummed about the 3 serama late quitters one even had a fully absorbed yolk

Thanks, The hardest part (other than the smell) was that the one with a fully absorbed yolk never internally pipped. I think the air cell collapsed and it just couldent move to get air

the membrane wasnt white and dry like shrink wrap, more like the inner membrane just pulled away from the outer.

so... I think my internally piped eggs died. It has been around 36 hours since i noticed it. This is the 3rd hatch this has happened, I emailed Brinsea customer service to see if they have any ideas. I really hope they do I have tried everything I can think of.

ewwww sorry about the losses but the smell will go away eventually
